So very true. This is my lesson the past few months. Went too liberal with my woe over xMas, Jan .. Lesson: Just because you are physically fit, you still can't just eat anything you want and not expect to gain weight.

I think the best advice I ever got about maintaining was from John10251. He said that those who are successful in maintenance are the ones who take it as seriously as weight loss... Or something very close to that. It has been 6 months for me with a couple pounds of movement up and down, but sticking with the healthy changes to my life is not optional in my opinion. I'm trying so hard. Thanks for being such a great example.

A big part of maintaining my weight has been to learn that dieting DOES NOT WORK. A diet has a start date and an end date. Weight control does not. That being said, we all need a life. We need to enjoy food as part of that life. I have learned that I can have anything that I want to eat at any given time but I cannot eat these things daily and I cannot pig out, nor do I want to. Nothing is worse than being gorged and so full that I feel like I am going to throw up. It’s all about planning. On boring days when nothing special is happening, I try to eat healthier. On special occasions I pick and chose what I want to enjoy but I NEVER get carried away and go off the rail—- why do that. And, I never feel guilty like it is a “cheat” day. Who are you kidding? You didn’t cheat. You made a choice to eat differently and will just pick up where you left off. Like everyone else here I have a family tree loaded with diabetics. I made a personal decision many, many years ago that obesity and diabetes were not in my future if I had any control over it. It never ceases to amaze me when people report that they “suddenly” go to the doctor and “discover” that they are obese, diabetic with high BP and wonder how that happened. When you tell yourself that you are weak, “cheating”, you’re bad, what does that do to your psyche? Currently I am dealing with major sick family issues. I’m eating what sounds good and is easy to get to from the hospital— so I eat. Will I gain a few pounds? Probably. Am I worried about it? No. I’m not cheating, I am doing what makes my life easier. Healthier choices— sometimes. Portion control— always.
