Kenna Morton's Journal, 29 Jan 20

Last day of the actual moving of my sister. Now it is a process of downsizing one more time. Still has way toooo much stuff to fit in her apartment. We are just giving stuff away to whoever wants it. Even my living room is packed with stuff that will go to shelters or organizations that help supply furniture for low income housing units. And— I just finished making 12 jars of kumquat marmalade and maybe another 12 every night for the next few days. At least my friends will be happy to see me come with food instead of stuff. And—- finally, I start a JOB with the Census Bureau on Monday. I will be a Field Supervisor for the next 4-6 months. About 35 hours a week. It may or may not work out because of my sisters medical needs but going to go ahead and see what happens. I have never really had a non- medical job before, (bar maid at the Rusty Pelican for a month when my friend went on vaca and I filled in) so on a whim I applied back in October and they contacted me in November with an offer that was hard to pass up. I think it will be interesting and really out of the box. We studied all about the census at school over the summer. I learned a lot that I didn’t know and just became interested in the process. Hopefully I can get back to my preferred way of eating. Pizza twice in one week is enough.

So good to see you Clarity Ann! Sister has been sick since November and her significant other died rather unexpectedly at Christmas. Double whammy. I entered into this job thing before she got ill. My BF thinks I’m nuts for going ahead with it but I really am looking forward to it. I like to see how things work and this time it just happened to work out. Not doing it for the money, although that’s nice, just for the experience of it. I hadn’t really counted on a close to full time job but the hours are flexible, and some of the time I will work from home. I’ll see— it’s only for six months max.. I hope you stay with us here and check in a little more often.

First of all you’re amazing for helping out your sister the way you do. Many congrats on getting your new job. I have never ever heard of kumquat jam.Don’t worry about the pizza I think you’re moving around enough to compensate for that. Congrats on your new journey and good luck
