velvetee's Journal, 11 Jan 20

Whatever you eat, it's important to have enough protein and have your lifting workouts at least 3xweek. Cardio is really not necessary (and so many people think it is, I am wowed). Lifting is also cardio, so that you know.

You can eat anything but keep it high protein and high veggies. Count if you need it. Having fun is great too, I enjoyed my homemade burger.

Also, basic groceries here, let's play if you feel like, what is this food you see?

Omg that’s a first, isn’t it 💕 We’ve got two completely different approaches, yet we get to agree here 😊 thanks 🙏 protein and lifting are mandatory for that long term success!

If you keep your rest periods short between sets, 60 seconds or so it’s like having cardio built in to your routine. 🤷🏻‍♂️ It’s what I do and I’m always sweating up a storm.

Yep Mike, that’s what I do half of my workout. Challenge for real. We probably have different goals as guys usually want apparent muscles, I just want lean. Also I can’t lift very heavy because my back is wrecked from a car accident. I am so happy and grateful, I can walk again 💕

We are too.🙏 I've had my share of back issues. They are so humbling.

Nice❣️ rosio’s post and keyten’s posts talks about protein and vegetables too❣️glad we are all in agreement. I’ll go lift some weights to complete the trio. 😉

Wow oh wow! You’re not a cook, this looks like you’re a chef. That salmon looks delicious, can you please share the recipe of the marinade, thank you in advance.

Nice post and comments....agree that consistent resistance training is foundational to maintaining muscle mass, especially important as we age. Cardio while not necessary, is a great way to maintain fitness, health and burn fat...there are great benefits from doing both resistance training and cardio in my opinion.

excellent post V❣ ditto on being lean V. I've been big before but as I approach 60 my focus has changed. I like being light now.... lol. Cardio is great for heart health and endurance, however like you and Mike, I get most cardio from my workout style. 👍💪

I was a longtime runner until my knees started bothering me 10-15 years ago. I was already lifting weights in my garage, but now I've gotten a trainer that really has shown me a lot. I now train muscles I didn't know how to move (the lats!) and have learned a lot about proper form and keeping the core engaged. I get mild cardio with my long dog walks, and agree that working out with real weights is more aerobic itself. To try and get the last 5 pounds off, I'm trying to throw in one day a week stationary bicycle interval training for 25-3- minutes. It makes me feel good too.

Najwa, thanks! I had a little bit of salmon left from the day before but it wasn't enough in terms of protein. So I made a salmon omelet. Mix 2 eggs with a generous spoon of unflavoured skyr, add spices and salmon. Add to previously sautéed 1/2 sweet onion and spinach. Make sure you don't overcook, I like my eggs and salmon "fluffy". I added more spinach + olive oil and gomasio as a side. Very simple, quick to do with around 30G protein<

Key, did you know that treadmills were invented to punish prisoners? I totally understand why ✌️

Steven yes but if you are like me, very busy and working out 3xweek is already a challenge... Going down to 2 resistance workouts and 1 bunny run, will male me lose the benefit of building lean mass. My fitness, health, and fat (I'm under 20%) are just fine without any specific cardio activity (that I hate, on the top).

Metamora, you can also increase your strength workouts and transform your last pounds into muscle. For your knees, I'd suggest taking collagen. Collagen is a protein that’s mainly found in skin, hair, nails, and other connective tissues in the body, making it the most abundant protein in humans and mammals. It’s slightly different from whey and casein protein because it has a high level of the amino acids, glycine, proline, hydroxyproline, and arginine.
