You'd Be Willing to Die for Your Children, Why Won't You Cook for Them?

The statement above is a title of an article I saw yesterday. thought I'd share. Only had time to skim the article but the title says it all!

And that will be the extent of my rant today over the sad nutritional state of many of our nations children's diets.

Kids learn what adults teach them, then they start watching tv with fast food commercials, junk food, cereal, it is a long list...then they go to school. My family didn't do me any favors in that department either.

Lizzy - DH brought me a pickup load of composted chicken manure. I got it spread on the garden. Just finished taking my second shower of the day. Having company tonight but I guarantee I'll be back out in it tomorrow.

GG - Our parent's generation weren't taught much about nutrition, but at least most tried to provide a "square meal". The generation of parents today have no excuse for their ignorance.

Buffy you are a girl after my own heart, it amazes me how many people feed their children the most awful food, carry outs, out of packets, boxes and cans...they have no clue what they are putting into their children and their unhealthy future.....a real pet peeve of mine...

Thats a good reminder for me as my boys (or at least one of them as the other's summer plans are still up in the air) come home for the summer early next month. And even though they cook for themselves much of the time, its still nice to have some family meals together & always a good idea to model healthy eating for them -- something they never get too old for! xoxoxo

Ruth - And a good reminder to myself - never too late to teach DH to eat is veggies!

Hey Buffy..I have no children but I do see what others feed theirs..Its soo much easier to go to the fast food places and such..but your soo right...I think if women didn't have to work to make ends meet they could do better..some are the bread winners and really don't have the time...it sucks but thats the way it is now..I'm sure that lots of them would love to stay home and be like The Beaver's mom...cause they miss soo much of them growing up..I know even when I worked I didn't always fix the right foods for us too...its just easier to have take out..Women always have to do more than the men in most cases go to work and then come home to a cooked meal and their laundry done..sure they take care of the mowing etc..but still its up to the women to make sure all is ready for them to getter done..So sorry for the novel..just had to say what was on my mind..Hope you didn't get upset with me...:O)

Bren - I couldn't agree more with the hectic pace of life. But even with take out there are healthier choices. For example, at McDonalds you can get grilled chicken wraps and apple slices (compare with nuggets and fries).
