Lisa Online's Journal, 17 Aug 10

RECENTLY I LEARNED "Your body is your gym", and about an individual "who ate air", which I found thought provoking.

I just read from a book called Health Notes that "Deep breathing exercises are like having a portable gym."

Relaxing with deep Breathing. You can use deep breathing techniques to manage your stress before it sends you to the kitchen or vending machine. Deep, full, slow breathing can relieve physical tension while it clears and calms the mind. Learn to NOTICE your BREATHING pattern. When you feel anxious, rushed or "stressed out", use a deep breathing exercise to relax and calm yourself. With practice, you'll find deep breathing is a skillful way to manage your stress level, your moods and eating.

INTRODUCTION TO DEEP BREATHING:

This exercise teaches you the basics of deep breathing. Breathe in and out using your stomach muscles. Abdominal breathing is much deeper and more REVITALIZING than chest breathing. Use the techniques learned in this exercise whenever you do any deep breathing.

1) Inhale slowly though your nose as your stomach expands.

2) Continue inhaling, allowing your chest to expand.

3) Hold your breath for one or two comfortable seconds.

4) Exhale slowly and deeply through your mouth, relaxing your chest and stomach.

5) Repeat steps 1-4 several times.

Practice deep breathing three or four times a day until it becomes a ready tool you can use anywhere, anytime, to relieve anxiety or stress.

P.S. Slept very well last night which is also good for the Energy. Towanda!!!

I read your journal yesterday but didn't have time to respond. Now I read today's and you sound soooo much better. Amazing what a good night's sleep will do. Thank you for those breathing instructions. I am printing and pasting a copy at my desk at work and on the frig at home. Thank you, thank you. This is just perfect. Have a marvelous day and I am glad you are "probably" (from this journal) feeling far better. Healthy eating - here we come!!!

I slept great too!!! Is that weird or what??? I think NN said she slept well too ... funny how we seem to have similar experiences. Breathing is a very good thing. I catch myself NOT breathing when I am stressed. Well, okay I am breathing but not deeply. Have a wonderful day my friend!!

Loved this!! Thankyou!! You've reminded me about a CD I will listen to in my car today that walks people through deep breathing. Anxiety and fear of performance is my unravellling. If I can find ways to better cope with THAT, I'm skinny for life. ;) Have a clear, calm, airy day Lisa!!

Thanks, I knew this, as did my body, but often times my brain attempts to hijack what my body knows is best for it. That is when instructions like these come in handy. And once again I am at the point where I needed to remind my brain of what my body needed. Thanks, and TOWANDA!!

Yes thanks for this entry. Breathing is something I always have trouble with and this is a good reminder for me.
