I am still in very close contact with many people I used to work with— ER, OrR, ICU nurses and interventional radiology people particularly. We had a great celebratory culture — around the Hollidays we would have Secret Santas and give small thoughtful things or do fun things for that person for 2 weeks before Christmas. Although I no longer work, I have unofficially continued that tradition and still do some of that kind of thing, just because. Soooo— last night I got up about midnight and made mini apple cider doughnuts for my friend who still works nights as a nurse in the ER. Also made her a small thermos of Mexican hot cocoa. I would love to have made enough for the whole crew but it is a 65 bed ER— way too many. She was sooo surprised! They were having a tough night (when isn’t it— big trauma and stroke center) so by 3 am (8 hours into a 12 hour shift) you are running on pure adrenaline. So fun and I think it was something simple that let her know how much I care about her.

Kenna that sounds so good, good to keep in touch with old friends. When ER and crew for a minute I thought you meant the TV program! What a wonderful gesture for people close to your heart.

Chestnut— retired RN. I was a nurse for 44 years. Over that many years I have done it all at one time or another.
