The new vaccine, Shingrix is not a LIVE virus (a good thing)... You do not need a prescription. Even the TARGET and CVS MINUTE CLINICS should all have it by now. Ask your doctor if they have it in the office (possibly not). Either way, if you are over 50, you should get this or at least discuss it with your doctor . Pull this article up on Google and read all about it. This can be a serious disease and it is contagious.

i got the first shingles shot ended up down the road getting a mild case of shingles, so much for the vaccine working. ended up getting the second vaccine they came out with which was a two part vaccine was fine on the first shot second gave me a rash on shot location. So between getting first one than getting shingles, than getting the 2 part one I think I'm pretty immune now lol. I'll tell you this even a mild case hurts like hell. I'd get the vaccine for sure if you haven't yet

The first vaccines were live viruses— the goal was to lessen severity if you did come up with a case. If you had chickenpox as a kid, that virus will always be in your system and will sometimes become active if you are immunosuppressed. This new vaccine is not live and CDC is counting on a 90 % effective rate.
