Sunday reflections: How do you handle people who sabotage your diet? My friends seem to ignore my "on a diet" mantra and have given me bags of candy, junk & fast food meals (as surprises). I don't feel much support (especially from those that need to lose weight themselves). I sometimes can toss the "gifts"; other times I wolf it down later, in private. I have explained I am a food addict (in recovery) and this is like giving an alcoholic booze. I am working on being stronger and refusing to eat it. Somedays, this journey feels a bit lonely! Any suggestions??

addicts who dont see the problem with their addiction are not likely to be super sympathetic toward people who are trying to kick the old habits.. some are understanding but in my experience that's rare. maybe you need to accept the gifts and allow yourself a little nibble (a little treat here and there isn't necessarily a terrible thing), maybe you need to just hand it back and repeat "thanks but no thanks, i told you I'm not eating that stuff any more, remember?" with a friendly smile on your face ☺ (once they've wasted their money a few times they may change their tune), or maybe you just need to find some people you have these things in common with.. i mean, this app helps but people who show up at your door and influence you in positive ways are also very helpful 😉 (lol, not that I'm suggesting you just dump longstanding friendships, lol, but there is always room for new friends.. then again, if the friends you have aren't really really that friendly...weeeell...) 😏 ...obviously you have a better idea of the motivations of the people around you, whether they think they're being nice or they're purposely trying to sabotage you. i hope you find the best path to maintain your new healthy lifestyle.

No means No. Some people may think your not serious when you say it. It's like when they hand you a drink after you say No. They need an excuse to have someone drink with them. STAY STRONG. THIS IS NOT ABOUT THEM...ITS ALL ABOUT YOU AND YOUR WISHES. Your journey is hard enough as it is, people need to have RESPECT

Thanks, everyone! Yes, I will just flat out refuse to take it; no discussion, period (in a kind, polite, firm voice). You are right: this is MY health, my choices, my journey! I was much more adamant earlier this year; just lapsing into old behaviour. Okay, hello new day, new month, new ME :)

Honesty I find many people want to see you fail. Two years ago I was doing therapy for my stomach -- H. Pylori and worms -- I had to follow a very strict diet. This woman wanted to come to visit from Canada and I told her to cancel but she said she wanted to come to help me. She sat in front of me every evening eating pizza, ice cream, potato chips and drinking beer. She would keep laughing and saying to have a piece. And she's not the only person who has acted this way in front of me when I'm dieting for medical reasons or weight loss reasons. So I'm jaded now.

Liv I feel for you- that is a tough situation. My mom is like this - whenever I’m trying to eat healthy she brings over chocolates and candies. I know she loves me but I don’t think she takes my habits and lifestyle seriously. No advice for you really but just letting you know that I relate! ❤️

in case if you can not refuse a 'gift', throw it away or donate as soon as you can. I get rid of everything I'm not suppose to eat. and yes people in general never support you unless they have a same goal.

I have been staying away from alcohol for 3 weeks I had a slip, and it seem like that addiction became my food addiction I am trying to work out a bit but I keep stumbling with not keeping tabs to my diet, I am always replaceing my problems for a feel good vibe I enjoy maybe you are doing the same or filling up a hole in your self
