Yes, — especially sockeye salmon, sardines, canned tuna ( not too much because of the mercury issue), dairy, fortified breads and orange juice, mushrooms and cod liver oil is a powerhouse of vit D, smells awful and tastes awful but you only need like a teaspoon. Vit D is required for the absorption of calcium. People with a diagnose low vit. D level should (in a perfect world) havea bone density done to evaluate for existing osteoporosis. When I was a kid Keyten Wonder bread came out. It’s the first food I think that was fortified with a vitamin. Back then there was still a lot of the condition called rickets which is stunted growth, deformed bones and teeth fro low vitamin D. Especially in the central and norther parts of the country where there were long, sunless winters. Several of my grade school friends had rickets and polio.

If you take cod liver oil you have to be careful and not take more than the recommended dose because it contains a lot of vit A which is a fat soluble vitamin and can be deadly toxic. I’ve only had one patient that I know of who died as a result of taking more Vit A supplement than recommended. Wasn’t pretty. Definitly not in that category of if a little is good, a lot is better.

Mackerel with watercress, capers, parmigiano reggiano, a little lemon juice is good. Can add caeser dressing and potatoes or replace potatoes with something else.

Believe it would be hard to find cases of overdosering on real food souces of vitamins. I only hear of cases of laboratorium created supplement sources.
