BuffyBear's Journal, 05 Jan 13

Today I'll be doing something I absolutely hate to do - baking! You see, when I cook I can get away with just throwing "stuff" unto the pot until it tastes right. But baking is a slow and deliberate process - reading every step and measuring accurately. Simply not my style. Besides, my kitchen is trashed by the time I am though!

I have got to make a low carb pie for a party tomorrow. Then I will experiment with some semi low carb/high protein snacks for DH to take to work (Paula - Thanks for giving me the idea) we are working on getting his blood pressure down!

Anyway, me sitting here grumbling isn't getting anything done!

I hate cooking & baking, but can only do either if I have a recipe to follow! Hope you hubby is doing ok & both your blood pressures stay low. Good for you for making him snacks -- you're a good wife, BuffyBear!

particularly w/ him away from home...sending him off w/ some love in a ziplock bag or cooler...MY husband would be OH SO HAPPY!!! Good luck in trying to help him. Small changes over time can make a big difference.

You're one of those lucky people (like my DH) who are skilled in just taking whatever food is around in the kitchen and creating wonderful dishes! I do NOT have that knack.....give me a specific recipe if you value your gastrointestinal health! You are so good to your DH, working on his health this way.

I think of baking as being creative, as I'm an arty type and a culinary disaster, it helps. I think the biggest problem with baking is that you need to make so much at once, for me that can be too tempting. Have fun :)

Buffy, I feel ya. I call myself a 'natural' cook meaning I just see what I have and decide in a general way what I'll be making with it and then just start cooking. I never bake because baking is based on science (maybe I'm more of an artiste?haha). When I do bake, I follow instructions. Anyway long lead-in to just say Happy Birthday to you tomorrow (in case I forget:-)).

Ruhu - Thanks. Not sure about good wife (that conjures up strange images - LOL) but I am trying to help him the best way I know how.

Paula - I am thinking (as active as he is) that you are absolutely right. Just a few little changes will make a big difference.

Sandy - I was one of those strange children who hung the kitchen and watched women cooking (Mother, Grandmother, friend's Mothers, etc.) so I think it is a learned skill more than a talent. BTW - You are so lucky to have a hubby that cooks!

DiHappy - yes, you've got that right - resisting the urge to taste is a big problem.

lbsgoner - Yes, that is me exactly! And having this skill can either be a big plus or a big downfall to losing weight!
