Well, I am beginning to see why I am not losing weight. I decided to stop buying food and to eat down the stores in my pantry, but just about every day someone has given me food. Parties, dances, workmates - they all are putting out food and I eat it. Right now I am eating stuff I shouldn't.
How do you build up willpower?

I have a couple of tactics, store bought goodies usually are not as good as they look, so I ask myself "will this bite help me meet my goal?", usually that is good enough. If I do decide to indulge, I have a 3 bite rule, because nothing will taste as good after that third bite. Now days I can get by with just one, specially if it wasn't that good, then I log it and move on. The more you pass on things, the easier it gets, so be kind to yourself and keep plugging along.

Right now my motivation is health related. I think motivation changes over time. Before it was enough to just look in the mirror and know it was time to lose those extra pounds. As I get older, that doesn't matter to me as much. But feeling good and not having the extra pounds on my joints and organs has become my motivation. What's yours?

It seems that when we get better control in one area of our life, we gain strength to gain better control in another area. I think about how I could look better at a smaller size and even be able to wear some of those smaller clothes I have packed away in the attic. Sometimes if I promise myself on a daily basis, to not eat thus or so, like sweets, I can hold the line. When I think ahead: "maybe I'll allow myself just a little of this one thing, I end up falling off the wagon." It has been that when I do fall off the wagon, it has taken me up to a whole year, to get back on. I can't have even one bite of sweets or I want the whole thing, and others may not understand. I'm not trustworthy, and have even told others I am allergic to sugar. That's not specifically true, but in a way, that is generally true of all of us. The more you have, the more you want. I "lost it" Christmas Day, and felt so guilty. Watch Dr. Berg and Dr. Jason Fung on You Tube. The guy that makes the You Tube tape "Butter Makes Your Pants Fall Off" is good too.
