So, you know I do love my carbs but I just came across two more reasons they are awesome. Sugar has been shown to stimulate metabolic rate due to increased thyroid hormone production (fructose especially is highly effective in these regards).

1. Byerley L, Heber D. Metabolic effects of triiodothyronine replacement during fasting in obese subjects. J Clin Endocrinol Metab. 1996;81(3):968-976.

Also: "Carbohydrate Intake and Testosterone Levels
carbs and testosterone levels simply put, carbohydrates are the most important macronutrient to consume for hormonal health.

And many of the best testosterone boosting foods are in fact, rich in carbohydrates.

The mounting pile of evidence shows that to be true in subjects who exercise and in subjects who remain sedentary.

Even the neurons in the brain responsible for releasing the master hormone (GnRH) that triggers the whole cascade of events that lead to testosterone being produced in the gonads adjust their pulsatile release of the gonadotropin-releasing hormone accordingly to the blood levels of glucose."

Add that to the fact that glycogen is the bodies preferred and best source of energy and what is there not to like?

If I didn't have to 'waste' so many calories on protein supplements I could enjoy carbs, too. :P

Well, my carbs are still pretty high, to be honest, my cake rations have just taken a hit, is all.

It sounds like more reasons to eat a balanced intake of protein, carbs and fat. As for me, I have never found it easy to totally avoid carbs. My hat is off to those who can because I have a very hard time keeping my carb percentage lower than my protein intake...
