My friends and I drove an hour up into the mountains today to pick apples. OMG. What fun. There must have been 15 different kinds of apple orchards, some I had never heard of such as the Arkansas Black— an extremely dark red/crimson color. Incredibly crisp and juicy. An eating apple , but so solid that they said to test the waters before you try to actually bite into the whole apple to see if your teeth can actually dig into it. I didn’t take a chance.. Oh my goodness was it good. We picked apples and ate big slices of all the different kinds as we picked them. I bought 8 lb of those and 5 pounds of a variety of others. The Ark. Blacks will last 6 months on the kitchen counter. Then I bought all sorts of unusually flavored jams and apple butter, of course. Hamburger/frenchfry lunch and half of an incredible apple dumpling.. it was so nice to see the fall colors. No trying to do a nutritional journal tonight.—
