Great podcast on the Joe Rogan Experience on keto vs. flexible dieting. They don't agree on everything but they do both agree on CICO being the end all be all when it comes to fat loss. You can keep saying carbs are the devil and you can continue to be wrong.

I'm still in the middle of it, but love hearing civil discussions between educated people who don't necessarily agree on everything.

Man, I'm only an hour in, this is a great listen/watch for anyone interested in nutrition, metabolic adaptations etc

It's cool to see Layne on the Joe Rogan show, I've been on bb.com since it began pretty much and have known him since then. He was up and coming, not really a name in the industry at all and now look at him. Pretty cool.

Can we agree to disagree. My blood sugar has decreased from over 200 fasting to normal. No matter how many calories I eat, the carbs still effect my blood sugar. I added fruit and FBS increased 20 points. I also don't have the highs and lows anymore.

What does that have to do with fat loss/gain?

I appreciate the fact that they don't equate being fat with being unhealthy or unfit as most everyone does. I've had one health professional person here assume I had health issues because I was clinically obese. Felt like saying 'screw you' but let it pass. Hate when people assume stuff like that. Shows their ignorance and displays the difference between being a health professional and being a scientist. One is force fed out of date information mostly from the drug companies with very little independent thinking and the other questions everything.

A deficit is a deficit, Draglist. You don't have to burn off the goodies unless you go over your energy limit.

Is Rosio, a pro bodybuilder? That argument makes me laugh every time. You're indirectly saying CICO is irrelevant.

So later on in the discussion, I feel like Rogan is getting irrational. Intolerant of anyone who has to find the right diet for them. It sounds like he thinks it should be keto or quit being weak. lol

Nobody in this discussion said CICO is irrelevant. However for diabetics, limiting carbs does give important health benefits; and eating excess carbs does promote fat gain. For me to maintain, I have to limit carbs within my calorie budget. To lose weight, I have to limit carbs AND have a calorie deficit.

Gz, where in the podcast is it stated that 'excess carbs while in deficit' promotes fat gain? I must have missed that. I could swear they keep saying 'calorie deficit' cannot lead to fat gain.

Oh! Gz, you're not discussing the topic, you're stating your opinion. Never mind. Misunderstood.

Got to the point you were at, Diablo. He's not interested in getting more folks to be able to lose weight by making the process more 'sustainable'. He's just being a bully.

Oh, he's back-peddling now. Maybe he realized he was being a jerk.

Finally finished the podcast. Really good. Might have to listen to it again. SOOO much science and it's been a while since I've taken A&P. I recommend it for everyone.

Yes some of us depend on nutrition for weight loss/maintenance

Draglist, if you've not listened to the podcast, you might get some answers. Well, I know you will. They go into exactly what you're talking about for a good portion of it. Not that CICO doesn't work because they're all, that's all the works, even the keto guy, but what your body goes to when you've starved it for too long. And have to say, for a guy, 1000-1200 sounds really low on the calories.

Yeah, I'd have to see your results from a metabolic chamber to believe that. You average that much while weighing all portions and could ting every bite? I just can't believe it when a 115 pound woman on here loses at 1900.
