59Carol's Journal, 02 Sep 18

This is day one using this format. I have been working on my weight for quite some time now. Our Weight Watcher group closed down and so there isn't one to attend within a 250km radius. I find being accountable to a group useful.

My weight history is quite dramatic! The first major weight gain occurred when I was 20 years old. I was pregnant with my first child. Unfortunately for me I was toxic and had high blood pressure. 6 months of bed rest. No watching the scale. In the end when the dust cleared I was 70 more pounds than I began.

I tried off and on to get rid of it but wasn't particularly successful.

When I was 40 I finally decided that enough was enough. I went to Weight Watchers and was weighed. I hadn't weighed myself in probably more than 10 years. I weight 320.2 pounds. I was so shocked. I expected around 250 pounds. At the end of the year I lost 50 pounds, the end of the following year I had lost 50 more pounds. I tried for another 5 pounds but wasn't able to sustain it.

I maintained that was years. Around 10 years later I had crept up 30 pounds. I maintained that until I got breast cancer.

I gained (yes gained with cancer!) 55.5 pounds. When I finished the surgery, chemo and radiation, I was given the go ahead to lose weight. I lost 70 pounds in the following year.

Stayed there for 3 years when all hell broke out in the family - there were mental health issues, a sexual assault on a family member, a house that burnt to the ground, a car accident, serious illness in my husband, and I got skin cancer. I gained 90 pounds.

So now it is time to go at it again!!

Thank you! It is nice to be welcomed. The tragedies I mentioned have mostly been worked through so we will all come out the other side.

The tools here have helped me a great deal. I hope they work for you, too. You can do this! :)

I am looking forward to using the tools. Thank you for your vote of confidence. I am going to try out the cookbook piece as I make my own kombucha and yogurt so I am hoping to have a more accurate count.

Welcome Carol! Fresh starts are just that, “fresh”. Take a deep breath relax and do this! You already know you have what it takes. I get to northern Alberta from time to time trucking. Enjoy your beautiful country on your journey!

Yes, we often refer to our area as God's Country because it is so beautiful. When we moved up here in 1981 we told ourselves that we could not forget to actually look at our surroundings! We didn't want to become complacent. I just re-read my original entry and realize that I had lost an additional 50 pounds that first go round. I ended up losing 150 pounds in about 3-4 years so I was at 170 pounds. That seems to be where I do best! At least this time it is 100 pounds and not the full 150 to go! Looking for the silver lining!
