Just realized, this week is five years since I began this journey, and I have lost 106 pounds. I know I would never have achieved this without the support and encouragement of all of you here on this site, so thank you, thank you, thank you. There are many different ways of eating (WOE) practiced on this site, and I'm certainly not qualified to recommend one over another, but I will share with you what works for me. From the beginning, I knew I wanted a WOE that I could live with for the rest of my life, that would not leave me hungry, and that would not have any forbidden foods. So, I focused on fresh, unprocessed foods with lots of fruit, vegetables and natural proteins like meats and seafoods. I also include starchy foods like rice, pasta, potatoes and breads, first because I love them, but also because they are filling and keep me from being hungry between meals. I eat about 1600 calories a day, and when I have a day when I go way over that, I just try to get back on plan the next day. I don't consider a splurge a failure, but I make sure splurges are infrequent. This has been a slow process, but part of my plan is to change the way I eat so that I never have to do this again, and so far, it's working. The only time I've regained a material amount of weight was during the first months of COVID, when I went into isolation. I regained 20 pounds, but quickly put a stop to that and maintained for about two years. Last year I got back to work and reached my first goal. I've set a new goal, but have been simply maintaining for the last few months. Now I plan to get to work and reach that next goal by the end of the year. I'm not sure what my final goal will be, at my age (I'm almost 81) I don't want to get too thin, but I will know it when I reach it. What I would say to all of you is, I believe attaining your goal is always possible, but remember to enjoy the journey, and use this time to learn how to eat for the rest of your life. And, always, be kind and supportive to our fellow travelers, we can never know what burdens they may be carrying. May each and every one of you find Peace and Love and Joy. 💚💜💛
