Finally a loss! I lost 2.0 pounds this past week. What was different? For one very important thing - I was in town exactly one day last week! I was at a social evening one other day. Compared to the last few months this is quite a change. Clearly when at home, my routines carry me well.

This upcoming week isn't going to be the same. I have an evening meeting, an afternoon at my daughter's office, an all day town day and an afternoon meeting. The toughest food wise will be the one all day town day. That one will be Breakfast and lunch in town and getting home hungry for supper. The rest I can handle easily, I think.

I have been very busy this past week working on the Women Shelter finances and meetings to get it up and going since the mold situation. Hopefully we will open our doors by mid March, maybe sooner. I have been spending time organizing for an upcoming Used Book Sale in support of the Women's Shelter, a Summershine party in July for my 65 birthday, working on two sets of books to get ready for the accountants and taxes, put together a casino report for the government, organized and chaired the Women Shelter emergent meeting, and for fun attended a Book Club meeting! And this was a quiet don't go to town week!

Today I have gained 1.2 pounds. I indicated last week that I had another 3 days in the city plus 2 days of subbing all day. Essentially I have barely been home! When I left for the city I was 0.2 pounds heavier than this morning. In many ways I am seeing this as a nice 'surprise'. I was mentally prepared for a significant gain from the time I was in the city. I do not travel with a scale so weight is often a surprise when I get home.

I did the similar plan of not eating 'road food' as I was driving. I did stop for a drive through tea mainly so I was not tempted by the other offerings. I did not end up with splitting meals to cover two different ones as I did last time however I was careful to order smaller amounts.

I am pleased to note that next week is looking like very little time will be spent in town. I will be able to get back to eating at home and thus know what I have actually had!

I gained 0.2 pounds this last week. I am taking it for a win!

I was in Edmonton Sunday through Wednesday. My Air BnB did not have a stove so all of my meals were eaten out. I did not stop for any 'road food' either going or coming. That is truly a first! According to my best guesstimates I ate way over my ideal calorie range - as in 150 extra calories per day. Somehow I managed to only gain 0.2 pounds. When I got home my Thursday morning weigh in I was 0.4 pounds up.

This coming week is going to be equally difficult because when I got home I received an email indicating that I need to return to Edmonton on Wednesday until Friday for a meeting with the province. They are doing a round table to discuss Women Shelter funding. I need to speak to the Minister face to face regarding the lack of funding for our Black Mold problem. Also on Monday and Tuesday I had agreed month ago to substitute teach. All of this means not eating at home and having to navigate the restaurant world. I will see about a plan to pack a lunch for Monday and Tuesday. Monday I will swim before class so breakfast will need to be figured in as well.

I am taking the fact that I navigated well this past week in that my gain was modest, that I can do so again. I am not so confident that I can eat so many extra calories and maintain the not gaining status. I will need to be diligent.

I honestly don't know why my gain was only 0.2 pounds. According to my records last week when I gained 2.4 pounds I averaged 78 calories less per day than this week. I have a system where green is in the zone, yellow is slightly over the zone and red is very high. This week I had 2 greens, 1 yellow and 4 reds. Generally I seldom have a red day and when I do it is one or two in a week. Last week was two reds, for example. Four red days are unprecedented!

I do know why my eating was so terribly high. I spent 5 days in town with literally leaving my house at 6am and returning at 7pm (one day it was 8:30!) This is basically a double whammy between restaurant food and physical exhaustion. I don't do well with either.

I leave tomorrow morning for Edmonton and will return late on Wednesday. So this week will be hard on the calorie front. I will have to be vigilant.

Today I am logging in a gain. I gain 2.4 pounds. I also ate over my highest preferred calorie intake by 75 calories per day. It really doesn't take much to gain. That is essentially one apple.

What happened? Five out of seven days I was eating in restaurants one or two meals per day. It is difficult to gauge what to call what is served as I am not in the kitchen seeing it prepared. It is entirely possible that my guess of an extra 75 calories daily could be much higher. Unfortunately I could not have avoided the town days. Packing my lunch would not have worked well logistically. I could likely have made some better choices along the way. That is always a possibility since no one is insisting that I eat any particular item.

Myself and another Board member met with three town councils and two municipalities in this last week. I will meet with a third municipality next Tuesday. This required a great deal of driving and we were tied to the times that the councils were meeting so some times were in the afternoon and some in the evening. This Tuesday is a morning time. The good news is that we have heard from 3 councils who are giving us substantial support for the black mold remediation and rebuild at our Women's Shelter. The other two will be contacting us later. In between there were meetings at the Shelter to oversee how the work is progressing and meeting with contractors.

In between the above I have been meeting people at my father in law's who are purchasing larger items. I am usually there for 2-3 hours at a time. That was 3 days.

I swam two mornings this past week. 45 and 60 minutes respectively! Pretty good. I have to leave my house at 6am to make the pool schedule time for morning lane swim.

Oh yes, it is also -44F here which is affecting everything! Baby, it is cold out there.

I am usually a busy person but this has really ramped up! Next week is going to be 4 days in town which will mean one or two meals on each of those days.
