Sandy701's Journal, 30 May 12

Walked 3.3 miles this morning with dogs along for 1.2 miles. It was 88 degrees already when I finished - Whew! The unexpected storms last night dropped a lot of rain, making for a nice, sticky day today. Thank heaven for a/c!

The thrift shop is on my agenda this afternoon and I'm looking forward to the challenge. Lately, there have been some changes which are good, but one unintended result is that the stock is extra-messed up....things in the wrong place, sizes mixed up, things on the floor and thrown over the racks, etc. While some people in a retail environment hate stock-keeping, I take it in stride and actually enjoy it. It's the challenge of trying to straighten it all out before the customers can destroy it again! In reality, I've found that if the place looks straightened, customers try to keep it that way, but if things are thrown all over, then that's what other customers do too.

As I fill in stock, I also adjust various racks to make them more shoppable. We have a few volunteers that fill in stock, never adjusting the racks further on down. The result is that you can barely get your hands in between the hangers....and that's just a recipe for disaster.

As I regained my blue line today (YAY!), I did some curiosity calculations...I love finding different ways to look at weight loss. As of today, I've lost nearly 37% of my original weight....that's over a third of me - GONE! Losing 1 pound now, at 149, is like losing almost 1.6 pounds at my original weight (235), if you look at it as a percentage of one's weight.

Anyway, I'd just encourage anyone who's been losing for awhile to do some of these calculations. They can give you a new, fresh look at where you are and where you've been!

The Focus & Commitment Challenge is in its last week. While I haven't been doing challenges lately, I'm glad I was part of this one. There were some excellent mini-challenges that made me regain my "focus and commitment"...how 'bout that?...and so I consider that a major success.

17 lbs lighter than last year...37% of you GONE! Great job my dear, I am so proud of you, plus you just keep going, that's the part that is really inspiring!! If I could I would underline/bold/color that word inspiring...just have to use your imagination! So, I have a question for you...how did you pick your goal weight? Me, I confess, I just picked a number origianlly, truth though, is I don't think I thought Atkins would really work, I hoped it would, but I know I didn't believe, really, truely believe it would work, or I could do it. So happy to say I was wrong about the WOE, perhaps I was wrong on the number I picked, IDK!

Thanks Lisa. I had it once and wasn't about to let it disappear on me forever.

Dar, I couldn't face having to lose 100 pounds, which is what I'd have to do to make the goal weight I originally thought I should use. 135 is a weight where I spent a good amount of late HS, college and into my mid-20's or so, so I felt it would be a natural, mature, adult weight. Couldn't face that ONE HUNDRED POUNDS deal, so just made it 145, which is still 90 pounds, but somehow a bit easier for me to handle. Like you, I had HOPED this WOE would work but, really deep down, I sure had my doubts. Who knew if the 140's, or even the 150's or 160's or 170's or whatever, were even possible for me anymore? When one has a lot to lose, I think picking a goal weight is very much subject to change when you get in the ballpark!

Wow you are so close to your goal weight well done!! Good idea with the percentages, we need visual things to remind us how far we have come - I have a chain which I add a crystal to for each kg lost and it helps me to keep positive about keeping the weight lose going.....

I think it is great that you are reassessing your goals (goes right along with refocusing and recommitting). But I never knew about your 100 pound phobia!

Triaby, I like the idea of a chain! I agree with you that it's so important to keep something in front of us, visually, to remind us of how far we've come or how close the goal is. Have a great day!

Buffy, the 100-pound phobia probably was part of the denial I felt over how much weight I had gained. Even as I began the WL journey, I still couldn't quite face up to how much that was. I still have trouble really comprehending just how much heavier I was....when I handle my size 18's and 20's (and a few 22's), it's hard to believe that some of them were actually a tight fit on me at one time.
