I think that one thing that I have learned from trying to watch what I eat is really learning how things taste. So often we are given food that is smothered with fattening sauces and condiments that we don't even know what we are eating really tastes like. I think that my best example of this is with pancakes. From the first time I was given a pancake, it came with butter and syrup on it. Now my mom didn't slather it on, but still, I never got a chance to really experience pancake without the dressings. And as I got older, I began to put more and more on, b/c butter and Aunt Jemima tastes good! I think I had pancakes without any kind of toppings for the first time this year. And they were pretty decent.

So I think that learning how foods taste has been one of the greatest steps that I have taken this year. Now if only I could go to restaurants and ask for food without all the extras without looking crazy and demanding.
