Sandy701's Journal, 25 Oct 11

Walked 3.1 miles this morning; 2.1 with 2 doggies and the rest with just 1. It's getting warmer again, which makes it nice for walking. The only issue is having to change from sweatshirt to t-shirt mid-way through the walk.

Despite the wonderful weather, I was in a crabby mood this morning. I apparently tweaked my back yesterday doing the routine season-ending maintenance and cleaning on the pool equipment. I had felt pretty good and was careful about my movements, but I guess I wasn't careful enough.

Then, I wolfed down peanuts like they were my last meal this morning, so my calories are way overloaded in the AM, leaving very little room to maneuver the rest of the day. I'm left with my typical salad only. But then my protein ended up too low - even with the peanuts - so I'm adding some plain beef later today when I cook it up.

I realized that it's been 6 months(!!) that I've been semi-battling these peanuts, so it's time to get serious and adult about this. Somewhere, I've got to find that the pain of a slow or no weight loss is greater than the pleasure of munching on these things.

I'm dealing with various frustrations these days and I'm sure that's part of the issue. I think I'm using these peanuts as my reward for doing things I'm not happy about doing, or as a soother to my anger/irritation at having to do various projects. Somehow, I need to get a handle on this - and I will.

Finally woke with very little back pain today. It has been 10 days and I am soooo over it. Have you tried switching out to another nut you maybe wouldn't be so likely to eat too much of?

Oh Sandy - sorry you hurt your back again. Hard to battle the peanuts when you are injured. And I didn't mean to rattle you yesterday - By the looks of things I probably won't be moving in until after Christmas.

or just don't buy them. find another source of protein like cottage cheese? I have a weakness for cheez-its. I'll eat an entire box (granted not as healthy as peanuts) so I just can't buy them. i don't even go down the cracker/chips aisle anymore...too tempting.

Karen, I pretty much like all the legal nuts! Almonds, Nutrition mixes, peanuts, soybeans, and ALL the nut butters! I do have some sunflower kernels on hand that I like to a lesser degree, but they're not as addictive as the peanuts, so that's a good thing.

Buffy, I took your comments in the nice spirit in which they always come!! But, please.....move in, move in!

Mehardies, that's exactly what I'll need to do - the "adult" approach!

Sorry about you hurting your back. I hope it leaves as quickly as it came. I do agree on the peanuts though. I was the same way with my sunflower seeds. Best wishes.

Sandy, I feel your pain, for your back ache & the darned peanuts. I seem to be having an issue with them lately too. They are soooo adicting & to hard to stop once started I find. There are others in my family that really enjoy those & can with out issue, so I can't get them out of the house. They are conveniently located in one of those 2 pound containers with the screw on lid...right in the pantry & I have to walk past them at eye level constantly. I tried moving them, they get right back...So I have decided to make a sign to tape to the container to help me remember to stay the heck out of them. Now, how adult is that?

Sandy sorry to hear that you hurt your back, seems like those things happen when we do just the little things sometimes. Don't worry over the peanuts, we all have our "downfalls".

Keli, I'm cautiously optimistic that it's on the mend...not completely healed, but not as bad as before.

Missychick, I'll have to look for those. I don't remember seeing them anyplace, but now that I'm looking, maybe they'll show up! Thanks.

GG, I've also thought to put a big sign on the canister! DH likes them and doesn't have a big problem with them, although he's become a bit too fond of a "pistachio lover's mix." Luckily, it's the one mix I'm not into! Can the peanuts get moved to another cabinet where it's not at eye level for you?

Notfast, that's exactly it! I wasn't doing anything that strenuous!! In fact, I blame it on taking the dogs walking at longer distances when the weather cooled. They don't exactly pull on the leashes, bu the leashes aren't slack, either! So, the whole time, I think that by muscles are working to counteract even that slight pull on that side. What began as a bit of an ache turned out to be more of a muscles strain when I was just doing some work with a shovel - it wasn't some big workout or over-working or anything.

Bren, you've described exactly what's happening. Now, I'm trying to replace the peanuts with something else I can pop into my mouth that's low calorie and low carb - not easy to find!
