Sandy701's Journal, 14 Oct 11

Well, well, DH "reminded" me last night that we have a dinner to go tonight. The only problem is that he never told me about it to begin with!

So.....the meat to be grilled at home for tonight will marinate 1 more day. It also meant I had to re-think my food options and exercise for today. I already had a church commitment early and had planned on not walking but going to the gym to carefully work on my back. But the calories for tonight's dinner, even though it may be on-plan, may be higher and I will NEED the walking exercise to accommodate that. No, I don't subscribe to calories in/calories out, but you can't ignore them either!

Luckily, dinner is relatively early and it appears I could get some fresh fish on special. That plus some veggies or a salad should do me just fine. Might even try shrimp cocktail with a salad of some sort....I'll wait and see what appeals to me when I see the menu.

Strange schedule all way around today, but at least it's absolutely gorgeous out! Sunny, blue skies, dry and a nice steady breeze with temps in the mid- to upper 70's.

Walked the dogs after the church thing, 3.1 miles for 1 doggy and myself; other doggy along for 1.7.

Don't you hate the unexpected like that??? But at least you got your walk in..maybe your DH will rub your back tonight..(Wink)...We have the same weather only the wind is up 28 miles an hour..makes it cooler that way..one more day on mariating will really make the meat tender... may be a blessing in disguise..Have a great day....Hugs...

You are doing a great job rolling with the flow of events! At least he "reminded" you LAST night & didn't wait until this afternoon to do it! I am envious of your weather today, I don't know why as I sit inside an office all day, but I am nonetheless! I hope you still have time to work on your back today, sorry to hear it is still giving you trouble...oh for the younger care free days of no aches & pains, sigh...! I hope you have a good time at the dinner party...Have Fun!

Good luck with dinner tonight. Lots of times my DH will walk into the room and say "I'm going to _ _ _ right now. Want to come? And I'm standing there in my sweat pants - and won't tell you what I'm thinking.

Any time I do not have to cook is a win for me! I have been cooking dinner for my family since I was 12 years old and my mother went back to work! That makes 44 years! I lived at home during college and was "required" to cook as my room and board.

Buffy, if I had a pound of weight lost (heck, even an ounce lost) for every time a similar thing happened to me, I'd look like Twiggy!!!!

You're right GG, a reminder today would have been worse! I did not go to the gym to work on my back as we were having our lawn aerated and so had to go out and mark all the sprinkler heads and other obstacles for them (lots of bending that my back did not exactly appreciate). Nonetheless, it got done and I did rest my back with heat for awhile before we left for dinner. This back thing is just becoming an irritation, as I still do things as if I were in my "younger carefree days." LOL!! Have a great time with doggy girl and the pheasants!

Notfast, you're right, could've been much worse that way.

Bren, the marinating will be just fine - for me. Sometimes, though, DH will say that the steak tastes like a pickle if it marinates more than about 24-48 hours. But I LIKE steak pickles!!! LOL!! Hope everything is tied down in your part of the country!

Lisa, you must have quite the cookbook built up after all this time! I've not heard of anyone else who had to cook in lieu of paying room and board, even at home, but it certainly makes a lot of sense.
