BuffyBear's Journal, 05 Oct 11

Last night I broke all the rules. I couldn't decide if my treat was going to be apple & peanut butter or winter squash - so I ate both. Was very luck that there was no weight gain this morning. Tonight I promise to pick one or the other.

Going to have to give up my noon walk today to get my hair done instead. What a nasty rat's nest - even Bren's In-Styler can't tame it.

Buffy don't beat yourself up, your choices at least were both healthy things - so a little indulgence of healthy won't hurt now and again. I am impressed that you consider winter squash a treat!!!

Tracy - I am in the process of seeing how many low glycemic foods I can add back into my diet and still lose weight. The low GI value will atone for some of the carbs, but I am sure to what extent. It is still an experiment in progress.

Bren - Did I mention that I had highlights put in and my hair is now the consistency of straw?

Yvonne & Tracy - My favorite winter squash is buttercup and haven't had a good one since I left NY. This is was so rich, sweet and flavorful - without adding any brown sugar. And it wasn't just me having carb cravings. DH even said it was like eating sweet potatoes.

You didn't break all the rules Buffy. That would have entailed peanut butter on crackers or something like that. You were still eating good things.

You know Buffy that I completely understand cravings for on-plan foods! Although, squash is a new one, for me. Anyway, when you add back foods, these kinds of things happen; it's to be expected every now and then. Every misstep is a learning experience, if we'll let it be one. Relax, move on. Hope your stylist can give you a nice deep conditioner when you have your service today. Enjoy your day!

Yummy, I love butternut squash & even grew some in the garden. So, I will confess, I added those in a LOOOONNGG time ago, along with sweet potatoes, I was totally scared, but I did it, I survived, you will too as you adjust your counts if you have to so you can have the higher carb veggies. Now, an apple...that's out of my ball park & I know it. Totally scared of those I am. To me apples go hand in hand with apple pie, apple bread, apple crisp, even low carb versions would I be ready for mentally yet...if ever. I am totally terrified an apple will be the beginning of the end! Well, on to your hair...I hope they can help you get back to being sleek & silky in no time!

Karen - OK so maybe not all the rules. But I know when I've stepped over my boundaries. Thanks for the encouragement.

Sandy - A 45 minute appointment doesn't leave much time for extras. But just snipping off 1/2" of the dead ends worked miracles! Thanks for the advice.

Buffy, Tresemme shampoo and conditioner is what I use...I went from being a brunette with gobbs of gray to a blonde..this stuff is the only thing I have found to help with my kinky straw...LOL....Mine is for dry or damaged hair...love it....

GG - I don't think I'll ever be in a place where I could eat cooked fruit. But you probably know this but there is a big difference in how your body digests raw food and cooked food. An apple is one of those rare foods that has both soluble and insoluble fiber. A half of RAW apple with its skin is not bad, especially when eaten with a protein (like cheese) to slow down its rate of digestion. So don't be afraid of the apple (said Satan to Eve).

Bren - Will check out the (dry/damaged) Tresemme. It is certainly cheaper than some of the stuff I've been buying. There is a store here that has a clone of Wen. Was going to try it but even the clone is $20 a bottle.

I think it must be our equivalent of a butternut squash - I steam this with cauliflower and mash them together as an alternative to mashed potato - much tastier.

Tracy - ButterCUP is different than butterNUT. It has an intense orange color, a bolder flavor (less squash like) and different texture. They are hard to find where I live but we have a new Farmers Market that carries them. I'll be back for more.

Buffy you are just too hard on yourself, you didn't break any rules, and what you ate was good stuff !!! I've got you all beat on the highlights, I've got plenty of "silver highlights" and it didn't cost me a thing except getting older & stress :)

Lisa - I am very glad you are doing so well. This new pursuit does wonders for you.

Notfast - If mine was a "pretty gray" I'd go with it. I'd especially like the price!
