Rainy morning, so the dog and I are just hanging out. The weather is supposed to clear by afternoon and the rest of the week should be great fall weather with lows in the 40's and highs in the 70's. Hope to get a lot of walking in along with some serious chores that I've set for myself. Between now and the first of the year, I have more than a dozen trees that I need to take down, chop and burn. I also bought a pallet of wood flooring for the house. So, I need to tear out the carpet in the living room, family room and master bedroom, prep the subfloor and install the new flooring. Finally, I'm helping my in-laws unload 3 cargo containers, move them to another part of their ranch and re-load them. All in all, I should get some good exercise out of this.

This time of year is always tough for me to keep to a healthy eating plan, so I'm being very proactive. My Father-in-law's birthday is next weekend, so I rented a party room at one of my client's restaurants and I'm having it catered. So I got to chose the menu. Fajitas are a great choice, since, without the tortillas, its just grilled beef and chicken with peppers and onions. We're hosting both Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner at our house, and we already have the Turkey for Thanksgiving and the Ham for Christmas. Both of those proteins are wonderful for a low-carb eating plan. We will have mashed potatoes and rolls for those who want them, but with bacon-wrapped string bean bundles, and asparagus spears with butter, I don't think it will be hard to eat well. For desert, there will be pie for some. However, my favorite holiday desert is canned pure pumpkin blended with a little butter and pumpkin pie spice. It makes a great finish to a holiday meal. All in all, I think that with some forward thinking, we can survive (and thrive) during these holidays that emphasize over-eating.

Good plan for the holiday eating. I'll have to try the pumpkin/butter/spices thing, maybe that would keep me out of the pumpkin pie.
