I thought 2 bananas and 2 bagels with cream cheese was a good breakfast. Wrong 84% carbohydrate and sugar levels went throught the roof. 125 to 362! Time for a change.

Just an idea, but 2 cups of strawberries and 4 slices of whole wheat dry toast would have been only 325 calories just keep it up you can do this.

protein works for me! Although I eat oatmeal and berries, I usually follow with eggs a couple hours later and then I feel great! Keep trying!

Protein is a great idea, but I think its better to eat the protein before the carbs, and in one meal. That way you absorb the carbs more gradually. The protein takes up more room in your stomach, and its denser, so it slows the absorption of the carbs. You will get full faster eating protein first, which will also help keep your sugar under control because you eat less of the carbs. Another good breakfast food that lowers blood sugar is cinnamon. If you sprinkle some cinnamon and Stevia on your whole wheat toast, it can help keep your blood sugar from spiking.

Edardj I feel for you. It was a steep learning curve me when I learned I had diabetes. "Healthy" is not the same for everyone. You will get the hang of it. After a while, the carb estimating will be second nature. I should have looked at your profile to see - but if you aren't logging ALL your food, you should start. It will really help you get a feel for where the carbs (and calories) are hiding. But as you have learned - Bananas and bagels are carb bombs. As someone else here mentioned strawberries are good as are blueberries. I also use the whole wheat toast to help me from going carb crazy - one piece, a fried egg, with some ham, and strawberries on the side and I am full and my carb cravings are beaten down for a fair bit of time. Good luck and keep plugging away
