I am struggling to to determine what my goal weight truly is. I’m coming very close to my “goal”which I set when I was about 75lbs heavier. Much of my weight gain was done during high school so now that I am a young adult, I am seeing my fully developed body at this lower weight for the first time ever. With less than 5 pounds to go, I have decided I’m going to be continue to lose weight. I imagine I’ll stop in the 135-140lb range (I’m 5’10) but it’s hard to say how I’m going to see myself when I get there. I’ve also become accustomed to quite a severe caloric deficit that I’ve been strict with for the past few months. Now that I’m adding 15-20lbs to lose to my goal, maybe I should let up on restricting my intake so heavily. Does anyone have some advice for figuring out an end point for weight loss? and/or how to stay motivated with a slower rate of loss? (I can’t help but try to lose weight as fast as possible which I know isn’t the healthiest way to go about it). Thanks!

One way to start for a reference is to find the average BMI for your height. Of course that's not an absolute because it ignores your bone thickness and muscle mass. But I suppose you can try to reach it, then reassess how you feel in your body and whether you'll set a new goal? (I just looked for you and it says you have a "normal" BMI between 129-173lbs which is quite a wide range in my opinion...)

You are doing great and congratulations. I would suggest to focus on body fat percent rather than total weight. One risk factor in measuring total weight is loss of muscle mass. The only way to have a good picture is by using In Body machine or using a scale that gives you full body composition.

Once I started getting close to my goal weight, I stopped being as interested in the scale numbers, almost completely. These days am far more focused on body composition. It’s a painfully slow process, but it is definitely worth the time and effort invested (for me, at least). My primary focus is lean mass vs fat mass. I’m currently in the low 20s for body fat percentage, and am aiming for a about 15% for my current goal, at which point I will reevaluate. Another good option could be a strength or endurance goal to complement all the work you’ve done to get where you currently are, perhaps? Whatever yo decide, best of luck with it! 😎

there is a BMI that you can calculate to determine a weight goal , this has helped me set a goal for my weight

Dane JD. I just calculated my BMI to determine what weight I should be and I have to lose at least 20 more pounds to be in the normal range. Now I know. Thanks for the advice!
