AuntieJan's Journal, 02 Aug 11

Well today I start my training program in earnest... only 6 weeks until the 5k and I need to start preparing for it. Getting ready to get to the gym and do my part there, then I will be at home for most of the day getting caught up with housework and my fs buddies.

The mission project to paint and fix the house of the cancer patient was a huge success and the house looks amazing! They are due home today or tomorrow depending on his progress in treatment. We finished just about dark on Sunday, and despite 5 days of work in 90º+ heat I was actually not that tired... I think the whole thing just energized me!

It appears we have our first tropical storm forming in the Caribbean this morning... "Emily" is forecast to come near us in FL so a careful eye will be on this one. At this time of year they usually hug the Gulf stream which will take it north and east along the US Eastern shores and hopefully out to sea instead of landfall anywhere.

Well I'm off to the gym to visit my enemies and allies...

Peace!

Thank you Buffy, it's not exactly a marathon but a 5k is a good starting place. :O) I'm hoping to give no more reports about Emily, in the gulf states we are hurricane weary in the last 5 years or so. Have a super day!!!

Thank you Strawberri, today is the first day of 6 weeks preparation, all went well but I have to increase my speed gradually, not a spring chicken anymore and I don't want to risk injury. Hope you're having a great week!!!

Thanks for words of encouragement..... I also admire anyone who runs. I'm not a runner...yet, but never say never. I am pretty top heavy[if you know what I mean] so I usually walk fast, but not run. LOL! Lets hope Emily goes back out to sea. Good luck!

When I first started trying to run, I was very much intimidated by just the thought of the distance. I really never thought I would be able to run even a mile - ever! Well, in the beginning I couldn't! Now I can, when my foot allows me to that is. Anyway, congrats on the ambition! Now for the only offerings of ideas is, #1 Get good shoes for running, go get fitted at a running shoe store! I wouldn't be having any of the issues I now have if I would have had properly fitting shoes! That, plus take it slow & easy by warming up, stretching lightly, walk, run, walk...etc, then stretch some more, with lots of water! Oh, & have FUN!!

Your comments just put a big smile on my face gg, I went to the running shoe store today after the gym and was properly fitted with a good pair of shoes! I am following your guidelines, too. Thank you!
