Here’s a scallion hack. While not expensive it’s hard to keep fresh. Cut at about 2” from the roots and place them it water. Once they start regrowing pot them up and you’ll have scallions to use at will. Enjoy!

No problem! Most annoying thing about scallions, they’re either spoiled or gone when you need them lol it works for herbs too. Like basils n stuff

OR you could just cut 2” off the bottom and dip in salt and eat them all!

Have to agree with 66; I eat them an entire bunch at a time like salad greens on any Mexican/Indian/Thai dish 😋.

Shir these things are so hardy even cheesepuff can’t manage to kill them! They even grow through the winter months in nc

We do this with green onions but use them so much, they just stay on the kitchen window sill lol

I've actually done this! Keep the roots in the water, leave the rest above water, change the water DAILY. Once you see green shoots, transfer to soil and profit. Extra plant hack for you green thumbs: Used coffee grounds and charcoal/ash (NOT FROM CIGARETTES) makes a great fertilizer. Enjoy your fresh, free food! 💖

Ngl these things actually do usually die with frost but... I've got 3 still surviving past our PA frosts that grew from seed, and I think 2 still alive that I grew from grocery store scallions. Online, people say they're fragile, but if you allow them to embrace the elements, they harden up. Bonus: If they get hit with frost, they'll flower. I'll be trying one of my scallion flowers in ramen tomorrow, I heard they're delicious. 😋
