So last week I realized I need to figure out that I need to change how I eat but at the same time figure out what is sustainable. I was doing so well with the new knowledge then by end of the week I lost control. My auntie dropped off sweets from the Philippines and I ate. My dad is here visiting and I ate.

Last time when dad was visiting I ate out of guilt to keep him company so this time I drank tea and was ok until the end of the week. I suddenly mindlessly ate. I wasnt feeling guilt that dad was eating alone since sitting with him and chitchatting. But for some reason I just reached over and started picking at the food in front of me. 🤦🏻‍♀️

No you are not starting over. You made a decision to alter your way of eating for something that was important to you. Now, you just return to your preferred way of eating and just keep going. You did not STOP, you just paused.

Love that your human. 👍 I have ruined my day before by preparing lunch in the morning and mindlessly eating as I cook. Then feel like I ruined my day, before the day even started. 🙃 Enjoy your dad, time goes by soooo fast.

@shrew agree life is short. After losing my mom last year every minute I get with dad is precious. I hang on to it as much as possible. If I could only get him to move in with me. Lolll

@moko yes I realized when I talk things out here and get comments some things trigger me and it makes me think harder about it. Other times when I get frustrated and start to respond I see what I keep saying but don’t really realize the truth or core of what I’m saying. Like the sustainability of my eating habits. I said it when I first joined FS and only realized it’s really the main problem of my consistency.

Sustainability is such a good thing to strive for. I'll echo Kenna -- sometimes eating is about the joy of being with someone you care about. It's a choice, not a "cheat." Not every meal, not every day has to be an exercise in discipline. Without the wiggle room I give myself, I'd give up

P$m— weight maintenance over a lifetime is about balance. You have to develop a way of eating and being active that is not just for this weight loss time. It has to be sustainable or you will continually find yourself back here on FS truly starting over againg. It is about healthier eating most of the time and less healthy ,or less conducive to achieving or maintaining your goals, just once in a while. An active lifestyle is part of that equation. Most people cannot rely on spending hours in a gym burning of the food they are eating. Diet and exercise fatigue are real, we see it all the time. People bust their butts and have strict diet guidelines for themselves and do great at loosing and toning and then— POOF, one day they just disappear and often return months later back where they started. You do not want to be one of those people. You can do this without all the trauma/drama, but this is a lifetime commitment to better weight, and hopefully better health.

Quite a few people have no control with sweets. Some will assert that you CAN eat just a small portion. That’s them, not everyone. I accept that I cannot eat just a little bread, so I have become comfortable with saying “no “ and never allowing it in my home. Maybe ask your auntie to bring cherries or grapes or strawberries next time. Because if it’s in the house, we will eat it— Dieting 101.

@kenna for me it is about the healthier eating. Exercise is not an issue for me. I’m very active. It’s my life line. I rarely miss a workout. But the mindless and emotional eating along with poor food choices get me. I looked back and it’s been since 2020 since my last weight loss of 15 and regained 10 in 2021. It’s been a battle with myself since.

@just. You’re absolutely right. That is me too. I need to stop buying the stuff I can’t control myself with. It’s bad for me cause I love Costco! I tell myself I’ll freeze the rest and then find my face in the freezer eating frozen cake/cookies. Last ditch attempt is hiding it in the trunk of my car. ((😏))

@P$M: Know thine self! It's weird how people push the moderation thing. Technically it's possible, right? But sugar is obviously an addiction, or else people would stop consuming mass quantities of it long before diabetes sets in. Or before their toes were chopped off. I wouldn't tell an alcoholic that Hey- just have one beer at the picnic, 'cause it's all about moderation! Ever noticed that alcoholics, smokers and drug addicts all turn to caffeine and sugar when they're on the wagon? There's a reason for that.

I like Kenna’s words of paused not stopped. We are all human, be a human that is happy, and just does the best they can. Self disciplined is the key and the hardest to follow, but so rewarding. Love your dad and yourself, even when we make mistakes. It is easy to get trapped in the quest for perfection, yet it’s not attainable, NO ONE’S PERFECT. We want to improve ourselves, and sometimes we can get caught up in an unattainable pursuit of perfection. Nobody is perfect, but life is about choices. Perfection is impossible; just strive to do your best.👍☀️🌺

@just that totally tracks for me. I give up sweets when I’m trying to lose weight and after reaching my goals or experience some loss I try to add a little back and I totally get it wrong cause eventually it’s not a little anymore
