Fritzy 22's Journal, 16 Feb 23

I finally cut the cord with Dish TV. I spent an hour and a half at least getting them to agree to cancel my service. They remind me of Sirius radio, they just kept trying to make me offers to get me to keep the service. I kept telling them, I want to quit, I want to quit. Turn it off! Finally when they realized I wasn't going to continue with them they said I needed to return something called a LMD (I think) that is located on the dish. I told them I wasn't going to climb on the roof - I live on a hill, I'm old, and I don't want to fall. They said if I didn't return it I would be charged for it. I asked how much and was told anywhere from $5 to $150. Finally they said they would send a technician to get the item and the cost for the technician to come out was $145. They were going to get money out of me one way or another. Anyway, he came out today and now I have no TV. Not sure how to get by. I ordered an Amazon Fire stick and that should be here in a couple of days. I hope I can figure out how to use it, but for now I just am playing DVD's for the noise.

Poor me! Since I was waiting all morning for the technician to come out (anytime between 8 and noon) I didn't take Bobby for a walk. We went on a long walk yesterday. He is still licking his paw raw where he had a tick. I got some little booties that he wears most of the time, but as soon as the sock comes off he is licking the foot.

I did okay with the diet today and hope to stay really good until my next weigh day, Sunday. I may go out to eat on Monday if I lose at least 1 pound.

We cut the ties a while back and it was the same deal. We have an antenna and get a bunch of channels. We also got Hulu. There are plenty of services, some free, some not, to get TV!! Have a great day!

The firestick will be there overnight most likely. Its a breeze. Plug into tv, and search. You also can talk to it and tell it what to look for. Love mine

Thanks SherryeB- Dish always offers great deals to keep you from cancelling. But I wanted it cancelled and they make it so hard. My fire stick should be here by 8pm tomorrow. Right now I am watching the local news from their website on my little kindle fire/tablet. The local news goes from 4am until 10am. I have Amazon prime but they don't offer as many shows as they used to, many of the shows are now on other streaming sites.

Thanks Kenna - I don't have big screen TVs. I always think it's funny that I'll see them taking up whole walls when I walk by neighbors' homes and then I see other people watching movies with their phone in their hand! Just want to save money. I have to have the noise from either tv or music because I have tinnitus and that's all I can hear if the tv isn't on.

Thanks Diablo - I feel like I got ripped off too. When I cancelled Dish at my old house there were no problems. I think they sent me a box to send the receiver back to them. This time they didn't want the receiver because it's too old. But they wanted something on Dish on the roof. They didn't even take the dish off! I just didn't want to spend any more time on the phone and it was clear the customer service rep had no intention of doing anything to help.

Thanks Jsagen - someone else mentioned YouTube. I will check it out. Thanks JasonMiller. The rabbit ears or other antennas don't really work where I live. The hills and trees get in the way. Dish even had to come out a couple years ago because trees were blocking the dish on the roof so they moved it to the other side of the house.

Thanks WifeMama - it is an adjustment but once I figure it out I'll be okay.

Thanks Cheflidobug - I just checked Amazon and the fire stick should arrive by 8pm tomorrow. I ordered it 2 days ago. Things take longer to get here than most places.

there is another option phone companys like T mobile are selling wifi for home internet around 50 dollars a month or if you already have wifi in your house you can order one of the streaming channels for 9 to 12 a month. be sure to try the free trials but also be sure to cancel at the end of the time period as they will bill you if you dont

Thanks Bill. I'm still try to figure out the whole streaming process. But the firestick was easy to attach to the tv and the remote is easy too.
