wholefoodnut's Journal, 30 Oct 22

It is supposed to be another beautiful fall day. Getting a late start as couldn't sleep. I will be off to Natural Grocers and probably Aldis for a few supplies. I need a Wal-Mart stop for a mailbox and dollar tree for a couple of things. Then outside to dig more transplants. I am hoping to find more tulip bulbs.

I have found that in this world now I have to shop first then plan meals. So many shelves are empty hat one has to buy what is available. I fear they will be emptier over the winter with short supplies of fuel for trucks--that means fuel oil for heating may be an issue for those who depend on it.

Tomorrow I will start tracking food again. I have Bob's Red Mill 5 grain hot cereal cooking in my instant pot--will be enough for at least 4 breakfasts. For today thru Thurs. I am thinking lentils and rice, maybe a grain and nut stuffed winter squash. I will try a new bread from an Amish cookbook and some pumpkin muffins with toasted sunflower seeds in them. Then it's off to my cabin and meals often depend on family and freinds plans. Tracking is more difficult as I have no internet yet. Hope to try out my new grill.

Time to get a move on my day.

Portion control and prepping meals is a winning strategy in the chaos of life 🤪👍🏻 And when I'm not at the helm of cooking, I find that the 3-Bite Method works (except for sweets, which I just pass on). Do you have a Farmer's Market nearby?

Walmart always has empty shelves. They were out of mustard, of all things, for weeks. Before that it was canned green beans.

Just bananas, I use the three-bite rule for sweets, my rule is "there are no forbidden foods."

I am also worried about scarcity of food.

Hi Shirfleur. First thing I do when someone offers advice to me (or a differing strategy and opinion) is check out their weight. If needed, I may also try to find out how tall they are, what their BMI is, etc. IF they are successful at weight loss, then I may take their advice. If they are still obese and have been so for years, I -- and other FS members -- will typically not take their suggestions seriously.

HI Shifleur and Mom2!! So good to see you. Sorry I have not met the others who have posted before. I have been on here for years (2012 I think) but not for a while. I was actually on maintenance for several years until the world shut down and I have not been following my plan. Nothing off limits approx 1200 calories per day and exercise. So exercise starts tomorrow though I did meet my step goal today, Not as much done as I had hoped but such is life. I did get grocery shopping done . Here in my area since we have had hard frosts the farmers markets are shut down till spring. I am looking forward to retiring and moving to the country so I will have time to again work on gardens and preserving foods. My granddaughter is also engaged to a farmer in the area. Friends raise chickens and keep bees.

Ah JustBananas, I've lived much too long to be offended by your digs. They tell much more about you than they do about me my dear.

Shirfleur, I can't wait to see my house. I am planning an amazing kitchen. My little cabin will be a quilting and weaving studio. It is so peaceful in my woods and I have a lot of friends and family in the area. So unlike living in this city.
