CrystalJo74's Journal, 28 Oct 22

Weekend is just about here!😀 It's been a stressful week with an overnight sleep study for me & hubby having to replace a toilet in 1 of the bathrooms. Ugh😣 I got to attend Letty's Zumba Gold class this morning, but could NOT get the sound to work on any of my devices, so I just followed along (with the help of my kitty, Cinnamon, who wanted some screen time too 😸)

Hope everyone is staying safe & finding personal victories this week...my NSV for this week is discovering my winter coat is too big for me now! (but my gloves still fit!😉🧤)

May I add potatoes are healthy carbs (starches) but in small amounts, specially sweet potatoes.

Salt is too high

A lower sodium diet is considered to about 1500-1800 mg a day. Sodium is a requirement for proper heart function. If a person can stay in that range you are doing well. In the USA salt is in everything. We just have to be aware. It’s hard to do for sure.

About right, but I'll also defend potatoes as PART of the veggie selection. For too many Americans, potatoes are their only veggie, and that ain't good. I think their 12 teaspoons of sugar is for men, and it's more like 6 for women. At least, that's how I remember it. Don't always stay under that, but I do try to shoot for that

Potatoes can have a role in a healthy diet. It always comes back to choices— how often, how much and how they are prepared. There are several nutrients in potatoes that we have a hard time getting in a normal diet. Potassium being one of them. When cooked and cooled they become a resistant starch. The starch is more difficult to breakdown so they don’t affect blood sugar as much because they are digested more slowly. Then you can eat them in a cold state (potato salad) or reheated as mashed potatoes, air fried potatoes, etc.

I love teaching the Zumba Gold Toning classes! It's such a great change of pace, I can slow down and take my time. I finally got my iPad updated so hopefully that will take care of the issue, AND it frees up my phone so that I can do problem solving if I need to.
