I'm opening a discussion about 'cereals' today. These graphics are mainly focused on the sugar contents of various cereals, without taking into account the other qualities like fiber or protein. I don't agree with everything said, but I found it pretty interesting to see the comparisons so that I can make better choices (for me & my hubby) at the grocery store.

Personally, I don't eat much boxed cereal these days. Pretty much just Fiber One for the necessary fiber benefits😁. I used to eat it quite freely, till I started watching CICO, and found most of them to be just too high calorie to be worth it on a regular basis. However, I still enjoy a small bowl of frosted mini wheats every once in a while😉

Again, everyone is different! Some are being more careful about sugar intake than others...and that's perfectly 👌. Our weight loss journeys are very individualized and often need 'tweaking' in one area or another. These graphics might help, if you'd like to cut down on sugar.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend, doing something fun and counting your blessings!🙏😎🌷💙

I eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, and pretty much whatever I want within my daily allowance. Not really interested in cereal, but this is definitely good information. Thanks for sharing.

Like you, I'm not really one for breakfast cereals. If I have grains in the morning, it's Weetabix or more often, oats. I haven't eaten a bowl of sweet cereal since I left home at 18. It doesn't even cross my mind because I don't see them as nutritious food. There is no temptation and I walk right by the sweet cereal aisle. The idea of buying that crap and calling it breakfast just isn't part of my habits.

I've gotten away from cereal in part because I've gotten away from processed foods, but more because it's far too easy for me to overeat it, and it doesn't keep me full. It's a trigger food for me, like pretzels. I can't have either in the house! A lot of people can fit it into their diets just fine though

Helpful graphics & reminder not to fall for marketing btw. The best is to buy the plainest stuff and add your own toppings or mix-ins if you want.

Never been a fan of breakfast in general. Grew up with either half a pb sandwich and glass of whole milk or a hotdog for breakfast if I couldn't avoid it entirely. When I did my first big weight loss, I'd put 3/4 cup of Trix in a bag and nibble on them while reading or sewing. Oddly enough, less sugar than Cheerios back then. I choke down a scrambled egg now but not an enjoyable meal. I LOVE eggs though, it's just timing.

My husband's like you, Anne. Doesn't feel like eating when he wakes up. I'm the opposite: seriously into breakfast, but could take or leave dinner a lot of the time. The only reason I eat some nights is I take medication that has to be taken with food.

writingwyo, now I'm panicking. I haven't added sugar to anything in years, I checked my nutrients this week and it comes to 27 g. Blackberries. But I don't have a lot of fiber in my life sooo blackberries. Not a fan of anything with fiber in it, never had a bowel prob. no clue. anyway, I'm a Lunch girl. Dinner? meh, breakfast? 🤢 not a snacker. Dunno.

Anne, my experience is that added sugars are a whole different beast from natural ones, because the natural ones come with so much stuff that's good for you. I allow myself a little bit of added sugar, but with rare exceptions, I keep it under the 6 teaspoons the WHO recommends as a limit. Means I can have my 90% cacao chocolate, kombucha, and a teaspoon of sugar on my strawberries, but I'm not going out for ice cream every night. Enjoy your blackberries! That little bit of natural sugar won't hurt anything 😊

^ the science supports your assertion that added sugars and natural ones are different, even though they're both glucose in the bloodstream. Kevin Hall did a study where the equate the grams of sugar (about 32) in food presented to participants, but one group got minimally processed foods (naturally occurring sugars), the others got super processed foods (added sugar). Despite the presences of the natural sugars, the people eating an unprocessed diet didn't overeat while the ones eating super processed stuff overate by a lot.

writingwyo, whew, Thanks. I consciously cut sugar out as much as humanly possible a couple years ago. I'll still have a skinny slice of cake (1/8th of a serving) on family birthday's, an occasional cup of hot chocolate on really cold days (it's been so warm the past couple winter's I didn't) and 6 oz of eggnog per day mid morning between Thanksgiving and New Years (instead of breakfast). My name is Anne T and I am an eggnog addict. May seem like a lot but I used to make a gallon a week and drink the whole thing by myself, so I THINK I'm handling it ok.

Big cereal eater. Love MORNING SUMMIT: Total Sugars 12g.

I haven't had cereal in 5 years. I used to love mini wheats! For me it's the sugar and carbs that make it a no no for me. I do miss it sometimes.💜

Love this discussion! Eating cereal sometimes but not regularly. Trying to keep sugar to a minimum. Don't always succeed but feel this is helpful information from FS members concerning natural vs added sugar.

Cereal is one of my red light foods. I have trouble eating it sanely/rationally/in reasonable portions, so I’ve learned to avoid it🤷🏼‍♀️.

I hate cereal. LOL. I eat a half serving of Bob's Red Mill Oat Bran every day for the Beta Glucans as my doctor hounds me about it.

There's a cereal online called magic spoon that has a lot of protein in it. I never bought it though, because it's too expensive. I just stick with alternating between scrambled eggs and turkey sausage and protein pancakes

RN16 $10 a box with what looks like a 4 box minimum jeez. Poop Like a Champion looks like more fun and pretty straightforward 😂

Thanks Crystaljo I love cereal, I just have to eat it in moderation.

No boxed cereal for us, but they do make a good occasion topping for ice cream. 😊
