Sandy701's Journal, 02 May 11

Back out walking today, 3.3 miles, 2.6 with doggies. Rather warm and humid, as there's a storm system coming in tomorrow.

I finally got to eat one of the cinnamon rolls I made Saturday. The recipe is off the Atkins site and I made it for the first time last week. DH really likes them as an alternative to the Atkins bars which he's doing without, as a kind of test for himself to see if they stall his weight loss. Anyway, the rolls can be dry and so I'm tweaking the recipe to see if I can get the moisture up. This tweak didn't make a noticeable improvement, so I'll keep trying.

I'm still adjusting to these lower (for me) weights. Changing one's perspective of one's size is an ongoing process. I think I'm doing OK with it until I find myself reading a journal from someone who's in a weight range I used to just aspire to reach, and there are fleeting thoughts about how I'll have to work to get to those weights eventually. Then I realize I've already gone beyond that!

I've been trying on more clothes out of my stash and finding what fits and what doesn't. The Dockers slacks I bought just this past winter are actually getting too big already and I probably need to drop 1 size. Yesterday, I wore one of my previously-favorite tops from 20+ years ago (luckily, it's still a classic). There's more for me to try on and work into the clothing rotation.

Two weeks ago, I took the plunge and donated 3 of my larger dresses to the thrift shop where I volunteer. When some of the other volunteers saw the items, I had to explain that, yes, these were items I used to wear when I was a lot heavier. One gal said she didn't think I needed to lose the additional 25-30 pounds I'm working on right now....she thought I looked fine the way I was! That actually made me feel pretty darn proud, as I know no one would have ever said that to me at my initial weight!

As for non-weight-loss news, I spent part of Friday running around gathering tornado-relief supplies for a truck our church is sending up into Alabama. Word quickly came out to everyone on what was needed. The church, in concert with other churches, was trying to assemble a good amount of critical supplies and move them there ASAP. So many things are needed NOW, not next week, not in awhile, but NOW!! We're in an area that is close enough to be able to respond quickly, so that's what the area churches are trying to do.

Well, I'm off to tackle the lawn and the last of the big shrub pruning, so the limbs can get picked up tomorrow. With the humidity, I should drop a few more pounds.... LOL!

It does feel nice when people comment on how much better you look than before doesn't it. It was nice of her to say so to you. I tried on clothes last weekend too! I am so glad I bought classics so I can still wear them. I found some really old jeans though, I can't figure out when I last wore them (high waist, straight leg, no spandex, how old can they be). You are such a giving person to donate to the thrift shop & tornado victims. I was just saying I wish I knew where to take things to donate, I am going to have to do some research on that. Take it easy on that yard work, we don't want you to melt away! Remember your water!! Have a great Monday!!

GG-Girl...Definitely take a look around for donation places...there should be a good number of them. Goodwill, Salvation Army, Vietnam Veterans of America, as well as homeless shelters. You might even find domestic abuse shelters will take things at an off-site location. Also, a lot of churches hold semi-annual or annual rummage sales to fund their various programs. Depending on your area, sometimes even schools and colleges will hold these events to raise money. And, if your things are in pretty good shape with a brand name, you could always go the eBay route and get yourself some money back on those purchases! Yardwork busted my #### this afternoon. Heading off to bed early!

You could clean out more of your closet. I know there are more big clothes you are holding on to. :) I have donated a lot of my bigger clothes because I don't want to look at them and tempt me back to where I was. You are doing great lady. Keep it up.
