Talkin bout 'carbs' today...

First of all, I'm not a nutritionist or dietitian...just a curious and often confused FS member🤔 Folks are following a myriad of different diet regimens, plans & WOE (ways of eating, for the newbies😉). The lingo and the abbreviations, etc can be daunting! I tend to follow USDA guidelines for diabetics (as my husband is type2) and it seems balanced and do-able for our family.

But we hear (and read) such dramatically different things about carbs, right??!! I'm posting just a few things on the subject today. I believe there is a place for clean, whole food carbs in my WOE to round out my family's nutritional needs. I don't advocate for any certain diet plan for ANYONE but myself, but I DO think that information is power and I'm always on the lookout for useful information👀💪😊

I agree that people on FS follow all kinds of diets and have different WOEs. I just want to be supportive where I can and hope everyone has talked to their doctor about what is best for them. In theory I would like to eat whole foods, minimal processed foods. But I'm not there yet. I could never do KETO, I would miss my morning toast or 1/4 bagel or English muffin. I also don't eat meat every day. I just try to stay around 1000-1200 calories to lose and I try to get 40-60 grams of protein.

@Fritzy...very sound advice, to go by Dr's orders. Sounds like you have found a balanced and sustainable plan for yourself! Good going!!💙👍

I am not as good as I should be in following my doctor's advice. I had my gallbladder out last year, so I really need a low fat diet. And I have high inflammation, measured by blood tests so really should follow an anti inflammation diet. I try.

This is good information. At my last Dr. appointment my labs weren’t where they should be. But my doctor wasn’t too concerned, she said that with diet and exercise my numbers will go back in the right direction. So I’m doing my best at watching my carbs and keeping my calories at or a little below 1200. Any helpful tips are always welcome.
