Yummy, 2 eatable treats given to me by friends today. 2 homegrown summer squash and 4 Amish grown tomatoes. The tomatoes are really good: made a tomato and cucumber (farmer's stand not waxed) salad with a bit of dressing of evoo , tarragon vinegar, basil and tarragon from the yard, some sea salt and fresh ground pepper.

20 minutes learning to hula hoop again. It works!! It's fun but the exercise weighted hoops are definitely more of a workout than the kids toys. I think it will be good interspersed between gym workouts, both the hoop and pilates on the ball I can do inside year round. Even in the summer there are days I can't be outside much due to air quality. Even if I'd rather be outside than in. Supposed to be good for the abs.

Hula hoop- could do it as a kid, doubt I could do it now. But I'm seeing the word a lot on this site. It's an exercise thing now? Is there a technique I don't know about? A way to learn it, because I could see it doing a lot of good. (even just bending down and just picking it up! lol)

I tried it on a kid's plastic hoop, didn't work. There is a hula hoop challenge, I joined for fun. Discovered there are weighted exercise hoops and all sorts of exercises you can do with them. Some of them are really expensive. Ordered mine as an in store delivery @ WalMart for $19.95. Birthday present to myself. The weighted one I can do, also haven't done it since I was a kid in the 60's. I don't remember them around when my kids were young. There are oodles of videos on how to's and exercises out on the web. Will take a bit of practice.

I dont' know if my 'tastebuds' changed or just the produce.. I can't remember the last time I had a tomato that had any 'taste'... they are all like.. red, round, tasteless mush. Even those claiming to be organic. I'm going in search of Amish.

Homegrown, ripe on the vines, they are the ones with taste. The commercially grown ones generally have little taste. They are picked unripe, varieties are chosen not for taste but those that ship well. Can't wait till I have more than just a couple cherry ones getting ripe. With your yard you should plant a couple plants. You are in NV you might be able to grow them much of the year. They will not set fruits if nighttime temps are too high. Temp depends on the variety. Bought a couple small cucumbers from my hairdresser this am, her granddaughter is growing them, and 6 ears of corn at the local farmer's market this am. Had an ear for breakfast when I came home.

Every once in a while I see the weighted hula hoop at Ross Dress for Less, its usually about 13 to 17 dollars if they have them, I cant remember the weight on it, it comes in parts that you snap together.

I think its the same one that they sell on GIAM. website. I use the stability ball also and my elliptical machine, trampoline, and foam rollers. also stretchy thing that I hang from the door, I do squats with it and pull downs, also pull up from the bottom of the door for biceps, I do Pilate, yoga, aerobics. floor exercises and sitting on the ball exercises with the ball. Also squats when pressing into it against the wall.

When I was a kid, we would try to outdo everyone else with hula hoops on legs, neck, arms, waist. I usually won. As an adult when I tried one it was a totally different story! Just like roller skates, except I didn't stay on my a__ most of the time! I love my cherry and grape tomatoes that I grow in large pots on the deck. Yes, you are right, the store tomatoes are really lacking in taste. We have a lot of farmers around here that grow them so the summer veggie stands are well stocked. I wind up eating only canned tomatoes in the winter and early spring.

The hoop I bought snaps together, I'm going to have to find a Ross store, I think opened one recently near me. I couldn't get the light weight plastic ones to work, the weighted ones are easier for me. My back muscles are dang sore tonight. Kattay, we did the same in our neighborhood when I was a kid, back in the early 60's. Loves fresh tomatoes, have sweet 100's cherry one, a Roma, and 2 early girls planted this year.

Didn't think there was that much to hooping until I saw this video on Youtube a few months (maybe more) ago. I know there are a lot of hooping videos on there, just thought this was pretty cool that a girl did at home. Just search "gRR9tc3xmwU" on YouTube.

Pretty cool! I didn't either till I saw that challenge and went looking. Told my daughter who it into fitness about it yesterday, she is going check out online also, it would fit into her hectic schedule. Figured for $20 it was a good birthday present to myself. Dang my legs and midsection are sore from learning. It must be doing something!!
