I'm recording a second entry for today - just because I can! It's surprising, but I came back online to find no one else (of my buddies) is logged on. No blinking green lights by anyone's name, so I hope you're all having a nice, quiet restful night.

The weather tonight is eerie, hinting at the storms to come I think. I believe it's actually warmer now than it has been at any other time today and the wind is picking up. The news at 10 showed a whole line of thunderstorms marching our way, although I think we'll be clear for the night; just tomorrow that looks like a real problem.

Today, I did what I planned and also added the errands I'd hoped to run tomorrow, so I can stay put during the storms. One of my dogs is a real basket-case and needs to be medicated if storms start developing.

I went grocery shopping and realized that Easter is similar to Halloween in the amount and variety of candy that's put out for sale. My gosh, everywhere I turned was yet another major display filled to the brim with Easter novelty candies. Because they stock so much, you can't get away from it; it's by the meat, by the dairy, in the freezer aisles, by the registers, etc.

I nearly missed the Gary Taubes segment on the Dr. Oz show. Somehow, I missed recording it yesterday, but luckily found a cable channel that runs it on a one-day delay, so I caught it tonight. It was pretty cool. The segment was titled something to the effect of "The Man Who Disagrees with Everything Dr. Oz Says!!" Oh, puh-leeze!!! Talk about sensationalism! I actually think they (Oz & Taubes) agree on a number of things, it's just a matter of degree. I tried to listen critically, even though I'm obviously biased in favor of the Taubes/Atkins ideas. I thought it quite funny when, later in the program after the Taubes segment, Oz had a quiz and encouraged people to add algae oil to their diets to increase their HDL numbers, when a low carb diet (that Oz did not approve of) would do the same thing!!

I missed the Dr Oz show. Stupid work. I was hoping to catch it. Maybe hulu will have it. His book, Why We Get Fat was an interesting read for the most part. There were a few times though I found my eyes blurring and mind wandering, but overall, I learned quite a bit and many, many things that are contrary to what we have been led to believe.

Good Morning Sandy. I caught the re-run also. Noticed that both sides highlighted the extremes - guess that makes better TV. But, if they had come together on what they agreed on, however educational, it would have been considered boring tv. That is just the world we live in.

@Cbreeze...Yup, that's what happens when you get back in the workforce! Maybe Hulu will have it so you can see it. I haven't finished his book, but from what I saw in the show, there wasn't anything new. They said that their discussion on exercise was available at the Dr. Oz website, so I might try to see how that went.

@BuffyBear...Could you believe the size of that steak that was on Oz's plate to portray the "typical" meal Taubes would advocate? And that huge bowl of pork rinds? I mean, c'mon.... A lot of times I wish we'd see more educational discussions on TV in more than 9-minute segments or 30-second sound bites. I'd also appreciate more truly investigative programs and news pieces. I guess if it's not glitzy, fun, quick, and easy-for-the-masses, it won't make it on TV anymore - and that, to me, is quite sad.

It took a little clicking...but the video segments are on the dr. oz show website. just watched them...and thought Taubes did a good job - not great job - explaining from his perspective. And I only wish Oz would have been just a little more receptive to meeting him in the middle somehow. Of course not all carbs are bad. And fruits do hold tremendous antioxidents and benefits... and there are alot of fruit carbs people CAN eat... that being said, all of the unhealthy sugar, processed crap that people eat should have been more highlighted (imo) to show people what to CUT OUT! And 24 hr's... give me a break! Try two weeks...and use healthier moderate cuts of meat (ribeye is known for being a fatty steak) More assortment of low to moderately low veggies, some low to moderate low fruits, cream, butter, EVOO, etc, and then even some beans, legumes, and whole grains in moderation... then tell me how you feel - bet you will be more energetic, and feel fantastic! And he comes across as condescending w/ his "I'm a dr., and you're not" attitude. Too bad, cause there was some really good info in these segments! I think at one point they both basically agreed that the worst offenders...have to go in anyone's venture to become more healthy. Although Atkins or Low Carb might not be for everyone, I do think Unhealthy Carbs are not for ANYONE! (so eating moderate / healthier options - to me - would be optimal!) Why not get more people educated on the whole BIG picture about what an abundance of unhealthy carbs does to an already Obese person? It makes you fatter!

Hi Paula. Taubes could have done better it's true, but at least he was better than the transcript I read from his time on CNN's Larry King Live (w/guest host Joyce Behar, I think) when he (Taubes) and Oz and one or two others were being interviewed. In that transcript, it seemed Taubes got interrupted a lot and never got any good points across, so at least this time he was better. I've only seen Oz once or twice on Oprah and caught a snippet here and there of his own show and had thought he was OK. But after this (yeah, 24 hours, give me a break) and the rest of that show, and what I've heard his take was on HCG, well, I'm done with him. Giving out selective advice to make headlines is not what the public needs right now, IMO.
