TXSnowman's Journal, 25 Apr 14

Well, since its been so long, I thought I'd make time to post a journal entry. I haven't posted in a while and to be honest, I've missed your posts as well. Since the end of tax season, I haven't had a minute of free time. My diet and schedule have been completely out of whack for 10 days, but the results aren't horrible. I have tried to mostly keep up with inputting my food and exercise, but I've been using my phone and i-Pad so I haven't been able to put in journal entries.

I'll weigh in this Sunday or Monday and expect to be up about 10 pounds or so, but I'll take that. I know that I can knock that off in a few weeks, and the benefits have been worth it.

Since the 15th of April, I have spent about 50 hours doing pro-bono tax work for non-profit charities, and working on tax issues for clients. I also had to catch up on my payroll tax and unemployment reports for the first quarter of the year.

I spent two and a half days flat on my back, sick as a dog. I believe that it was a reaction to the Whooping Cough/Diphtheria/Tetanus inoculation that I got last Saturday.

Also, my Wife loves drive-in movies and is crazy about "The Sound of Music" with Julie Andrews. So when I saw that the mini-urban drive-in was showing that movie, it was a no-brainer to get tickets for Saturday night. We had a great time. Just like when we were kids, we parked the pickup truck backwards, put down the tailgate and spread out some sleeping bags and pillows and watched the movie. It even had the "old school" metal speakers.

The biggest accomplishment since the end of tax season was building the fence across the front of the property. My in-laws and I put up about 400' of 5-strand fence with 2 gates and a cattle guard. It turned out great. All credit to my Father-in-law. His expertise (and backhoe, front-loader, & posthole digger) made the whole thing possible.

Our new horse is being delivered Monday morning, so I have my work cut out for me. I have to take the chainsaw and clear brush and install another 400' or so across a ravine and creek on the West side of the property. Its the toughest spot on the property to fence, which is why it is being done last, I guess. Since the terrain is so rough, I only have a couple of days to get it done and I'm going to be installing it by myself, I'm just going to put in t-posts and 4" goat wire fencing. That should go much faster.

Driving into Austin this afternoon to pick up a bunch of tack that I found on Craigslist yesterday. While I'm there I'll pick up some 6" PVC drainage pipe to channel the water out from under the cattle guard and into the creek that leads to our tank (pond). I also need to pick up a hay rack and water trough for the horse along with a bunch of fencing materials.

Next week doesn't slow down any. Besides building fence, Saturday morning is the American Lung Association "Climb for Life" event. Saturday night, I'm taking my entire staff and their families to a "Season's Over" dinner. Monday evening, I'm attending a banquet where I'll be awarding 12 college scholarships to recipients from three local high schools. Tuesday I have a Rotary Board Meeting and an Office work-day. Wednesday I have a luncheon at the County Youth Center. Thursday I have our regular Rotary Club meeting and a regular office work-day.

But FRIDAY....Friday we fly to South Carolina to see our Son, his wife and the two grandbabies! I get to spend a couple of weeks with them and relax a bit. Woo Hoo!

Well, the sun has risen. So its time to grab the chainsaw and start clearing a fence line. I hope Y'all have a wonderful weekend.

Wow! You've been one busy "camper". You'll have no problem loosing those 10 lbs. at the rate you're going. Just think of where you've come from and how much better you feel today compared to the same time last year...to where you can actually do the "Climb for Life" event. Inspiring. Enjoy your time with your family. You deserve a break after a very long and tiring stretch.
