DairyKing's Journal, 27 Feb 14

Good Morning, FS Warriors! Opened my eyes this morning and glanced at the clock. 3:20. Ugh. Alarm is set for 3:30. Rolled over and tried to sleep for 10 more minutes. Some nagging Brunette is in my head taunting me, "You're not going to lose the fat that way, get moving." Your place is in the DVD player downstairs, now leave me alone. The alarm goes off. I hit the snooze button for 9 more minutes of sleep. No chance. Nag, nag, nag. Used to be, I was the one that had to convince myself to get out of bed. Now I've got this female drill sargeant wannabe intruding into the sacred confines of my nirvana. The lyrics of a Jim Croce classic comes to mind, "The meanest hunk o' woman that anybody ever seen." I want to tell Jillian that she is going to pay, but I know that it is me that is going to suffer a while longer. Up at 3:40 and heading down to the dungeon with my water bottle and mp3 player. I already know this is going to hurt; I just don't feel like working out. In goes the disk, and then I have to wait through the five minute infomercial while Jillian sells her wares. I try to fast-forward, but this hand symbol pops up on the screen to let me know that it is not allowed. All I want to do is get this over with. Finally the warmup is over, and so am I. Really? I'm wasted after the two minute warmup! Down into plank position. Down-up-one, down-up-two . . . down-up twenty; I'm dying. Move on to squats and presses. Back into cardio, and then crunches. I just knew I would feel better if I puked, but I just didn't have the energy. And I'm only doing circuit #1 on the DVD, because I've still got to make it through my walk/run program. Run 3 minutes/walk 1 (X10); then run 2 minutes more. This was one of those grueling mornings where nothing felt right. You know what the kicker is? I got upstairs and looked at my running schedule; this is supposed to be a rest day! I should go back to bed. Am I glad I exercised? Yes. Am I glad it's over? Yes. Am I looking forward to doing this again tomorrow morning? No. Will I? Yes. Why? Because I need to.

Spicey V8 juice and oatmeal for breakfast. I know the juice is laden with salt, but I love that stuff! I could drink a half gallon of that if I didn't know better. Keeping my intake well below my RDI, in fact probably averaging less than 75% of my RDI. Still, not expecting much of a drop tomorrow. Curiosity has gotten the better of me a couple times this week and I have stepped on the scale to hold it down, and stolen glances at the display. I have been hovering around the same weight all week. It would be glorious to have a big drop come tomorrow morning; glorious but not realistic. But, it will come.

Greeted with a lovely weather forecast this morning. Expecting as much as 11 inches of snow this weekend. Really? Come on! Cold, and snow. How about one or the other? I am so ready for Spring. I don't live in Minnesota, for crying out loud! I'm in Illinois. It's not suppsed to be the never-ending story here. But, all is good. It's OK. Spring is coming and soon I'll be out there running like a gazelle. I think I will; I think I will; I know I will; I know I will.

How about that for rambling on and on? Oh well, just had to get it all out of my system. Toodles!

So can't you make tomorrow the rest day instead? I love V8 too but don't do too much of it these days. You are really inspiring me to keep this up. I just heard on the radio that the lake being so frozen is going to keep our summer cool. When winter is over it is not really over is it? I'll take a cool summer this year but next year I want hot! Maybe I will be in Florida by then. Have a great day!

I'm jealous of Julian. Even in my prime I never had such an effect on a guy!

Well, Buffy, I am starting to notice her nose. Hear that, Carol? She is kind of getting on my nerves.

I almost died laughing the way you experience your workout. I know exactely what you are living, are you a writer? PS: send some of that snow this way, we haven't had snow all winter! We are supposed to have snow at least one month... (Oh, and you can keep the cold)

No, Maud, I'm just a misguided, abused and senile old guy who loves expounding on the joys of beating my body into submission. If I was to write a book, it would probably be on food, and I would have to sample everything I wrote about, and then I'd be right back here doing it all over again. Where's the justice in that?

They say time heals all wounds. Toward the end of the day, I'm actually looking forward to my next workout. Sick, isn't it? Don't get too full of yourself, Jillian, I'm only pretending I like you till I get through this.

I'm patting you on the back cause I know there is no way in ---- I would get up at 3:30 am to be dogged by Jillian. I like that about you though since you don't give up and that is honorable. I like it. Have a wonderful rest of the day.
