I've fasted on water before.... it's hard but I found that after a couple of days my mental health was better. I prefer dry fasting.

sorry davina's just saw this. yes I did but I don't recommend dry fasting for too long. liquid fasting is probably safer...

dry fasting includes no water or food so if you decide to do it make sure you're careful.

Fasting for weight loss purposes is not a long term solution.

Sorry- I just saw this post as well. I usually IF 18/6. That said, I am in the middle of an unusual 48 Hr fast -ends tomorrow at 1pm. Just to reset. I am drinking coffee and water. I incorporated 2 Tbls of MCT oil to counter the acidic gut . Please be careful. I went very slow/short in duration until I knew what I could tolerate. I started to look at every "try" as a lesson. I lesson on what I could learn...eventually...I landed on Intermittent Fasting and then I played with the windows on that. Then I went to One Meal A Day. I liked it for a while. Now...18/6 is my best way of eating (last 2 yrs)! Godspeed to you.

IF 18/6 or 16/8 works well for quite a few people. I'm hoping to make it work for me but these late tv evening binges with snacks are my down fall. I can get up at 6 am, live on tea and not feel hungry until noonish. Brunch and dinner with a planned snacks are my plan.

I've done all water fasts over the past 13 years. start slow and work up. one day. 2 days. for weight loss maybe not a great idea haven't read a lot of research. mine were to prepare my heart for answers I was seeking from the Lord. the first 3 days is a beast as your brain adjusts to no intake. it was almost torture for me trying to keep my mind off food. maybe start with liquid like Gatorade or something. I've gone 14 days nothing but water and coffee. out of my sheer stubbornness to make it the full 21 day goal I actually blacked out and smashed my face at 2am. scared the crap out of my wife. I do not recommend that length. but I can do 3 and 7 days fairly comfortable now. don't do it often anymore. 24 hours here and there. research. do it safely. listen to your body. takes a while to discern what's just my body whining and what's a legit issue. not sure if I've helped. just a snippet of my experience with it.

You’ gone this far into the colonoscopy prep, you might as well call your doc and see if you can get one done while you are on a roll. Hehehehe

What results are you hoping to get out of this severe calorie restriction?

I've done it and saw no real benefit to it that one couldn't get from losing weight by eating less or being more active. It's OK, but I wouldn't recommend more than 24h and maybe consider why you're doing it and what you're expecting out of it. It's not magical and many people don't even lose weight from it if they're not restricting calories when they do eat and instead "making up" for the meals they skipped.
