FullaBella's Journal, 07 May 20

So - let me save your finger pounding or swiping or voice to text dictation and get this outta the way up front: "This is not necessarily food, exercise, or weight related." All better now?

I was wondering, if you want to share, what, if anything, have you had to do without in the past six weeks that you may not resume in the future? For me, I'm thinking about manicures. I'm not sure if forever. I'm just not in a hurry to rush back to it even when they do reopen.

AND ... just to keep it food & weight related ... at the recognition that my 3 to 5 pound bounce had moved into an 8lb gain that wasn't bouncing back off, I recognized that the snacky snacks had to go. So that's one six week habit I had to break.

Your turn.

I'm with Katsolo. I've rescheduled my hair 3 times as well. I will still get trims but I'm seriously thinking of letting my gray come in. (yikes!)

A good indication that your posts are acceptable could be measured by the support that you get. I find it very sad that people might be afraid to post because some people don't find it acceptable. We can't please everyone and it is easy to skip a post. And, to answer your question I have stopped drinking bottled water. I have been wanting to for quite some time because of the impact on the environment. I don't plan to start again. But my hair is a different story. I am just so glad that the last time I went in December my hairdresser did not highlight it with a very light blond. At this point it blends in but I will get it done when I feel it is safe.

I love your posts, Bella! When they lift spirits, make us think, or just are your thoughts, they are all so appreciated. I think I will less frequently run to the store. With seeking to be careful to go only every one to two weeks, I've been better at planning. But... Actually when there is more fresh, new fruit available I think I will be in and out more regardless. 😁

The interesting part is that I have not had to really give up too much as far as food goes. Pretty much everything that I had adjusted to is still available. I do not miss the office drama at my civilian job however. I miss the gym the most but again - I am making due with what I have to keep moving. I am not sure how much eating out I will resume when we are released from confinement.

I appreciate your responses - everyone of you. It's funny - Rebekah - I didn't get manicures until I was in my 30's and it was more for the professionalism than 'luxury'. My husband always imagined it was like on TV - chaise lounges, thick soft robes, pampering. I couldn't get him to understand that at MOST salons it was like a cattle drive / sweat shop.

And it is ironic that prior to the sheltering in place, I got 99% of my non perishables from Amazon delivery .. and my perishables from Instacart delivery. I only ventured out to the stores 'during' because Amazon delivery became unpredictable with it's huge demands and my grocery order was constantly compromised due to limitations.

Did y'all see the salon operator jailed in Texas for reopening too soon? I smell a movie.

First, Bella, I always look forward to your posts, thank you for them. As for not going back, I can't think of anything. I miss dining out and going to movies and theatres and museums and all that stuff. I miss family and friends. I miss pedicures. I really miss my housekeeper. But, I realize how fortunate I am, so no complaining. 💛

Shir - I'm there with you on missing museums and live theater as well as the occasional posh monthly meal. Other than those, I didn't dine out 'that much' before. I am looking forward to a nice deep tissue massage. Like you, I recognize I am very fortunate too so it wasn't that much of a hardship but it did give me time to reflect on 'what do I need' vs 'what do I just want'.

I’m not really high maintenance so the only things I’ve had to love without are my hair trim, my massage and the gym. I don’t think I’ll ever give up the gym or my massage. (I hold physical and emotional stress in my shoulders, neck and upper back and this leads to migraines if I don’t get a massage every month or so). I’m considering giving up the hair trim because I’m always growing my hair out. I will miss someone else washing my hair and straightening it though. I have 2 months before my next appointment to see if this trim helped it grow or whatever.

Peep - I struggle to justify the necessity of the massage .. I always have to break it down to 'it's a health benefit, not a luxury' for myself.

Melissa - I actually went to the store 'more' during this time (weekly) than in the past - as I commented.. but I won't deny I do enjoy the occasional window shopping... touching fabric, sniffing candles, caressing a nice leather handbag..

I haven't missed anything material. I miss going to Real church 4 days a week, playing the piano and singing, instead we doing it on line. Glad we have it but it's not the same. And I really miss going to the gym 3 to 4 times a week. I still get my groceries. Order on line and go pick them up. Saves time and we get 5% on our bill. I cut my own hair and have done so since I was like 12. Never had a manicure in my life, so at 67 years old, I don't think I'll start ever. Life is good and God is good, and I am just thankful for what I do have. Good health and a healthy family. God bless and pray you all have a great day.

Bella, I think one of the most hated activities I endure is shopping for things I need. I loath it. But, to drift about and caress pretty things... That is nice! Oh to walk through the leather, street market in Florence and see all the beautiful people and things... Another year!

I was the same until I realized I had way less headaches when I went for a massage every month or so. Next month I plan to ask that she just focus on my feet, upper back, neck and shoulders. This week she said my legs, arms and lower back were much better than usual. I’d rather make sure all the kinks get out of my trouble areas and just do self massage on my legs when needed and keep up with stretches. She offers 90 minute massages and a 60 minute one with a 30 minute nap afterwards. Now that would be a luxury!

I’m going to limit my shopping trips for sure. I had just started getting my nails done 💅🏻 it felt really good doing something for myself. I think I might continue that when we move out of the red zone....6/4. Even when we go to green, I have some pretty purple masks that I plan on wearing out.

I always enjoy your posts, Bella! Whether they be whimsical...and they make me smile...or more serious & they make me think. Tying to think of something I've given up that I won't go back to....Most of what I've given up is interaction with my friends & family. I really miss social activities like Book Club & lunch with the Ladies. And sitting on the patio & listening to music with friends on a nice day. Hubby & I eat at home a lot but I do miss having the choice to go out to a restaurant. I enjoy a pedicure or massage but those are occasional treats. So....don't think I'm giving up anything forever but I may still have to wait awhile before I can enjoy all these "in person" activities.

My last "I want it", but don't need it" bargain purchase before the shutdown was a Nordicware ebelskiver pan. Brand new $40.00 at William Sonoma I paid $3.00 for one that was still in the box from Goodwill. I love a good bargain especially when it comes to wants and not needs. I am very frugal and practical always have been. Since the shutdown my purchases have been limited to food and beverage, cleaning supplies, gas, cat supplies, a few garden supplies. Basics and no fluff.....I love shopping for a bargain but it has to be really cheap and have a purpose before I hand over the cash. I may or may not do that again..... time will tell.
