Just my humble opinion: (lets get back to what we are here for). Many of the posts on here have turned into many people trying to assemble plates that would qualify on a Gordon Ramsey tv show with photo filters etc.. Why? This is not a cooking competition and relying on plating. Many of my meals are not beyond a bowl of beans and some veggies. I can cook lots of cuisines and can cook circles around most. 20+ years in the restaurant business.

As a former fine dining restaurant owner i understand plating and how it is used to up prices and to get people to return. It is also more pleasurable to eat something that looks good so a smaller portion satisfies. It saves on restaurant food costs. The concept that if it looks good a smaller portion satisfies helps control portions. I get it i used to calculate food costs. I have suggested on here in the past to make your food look good to eat less. You also eat with your eyes and nose. Remember
You do not need to sell what you cook.

I put salads often in a pretty antique bowl because i have them and like them -no particular arrangement. I grab a plate or bowl that doesn't clash with my food, white or my clear antique set if it clashes with my colored sets. Simple.. I have some cheap dollar tree colored sets simply because i liked them and they were cheap. I'm a quilter so colors matter to me. A smaller plate helps with portions.

I know how to turn veggies into flowers etc. And make food look picture perfect amazing. i could out cook our chef except really high volume but could run the kitchen with my cooks without him. Handled all the banquets and cooked specialty dishes for some of them. I do know how to do a lot with food. I honestly do not spend my time doing decorated dishes, i have other things to do. Maybe for a special occasions, however my family would prefer to scoop out what they want from a slow cooker keeping something hot. 🤔i cook for me now. Those restaurant days and stresses of "perfect food " are long gone.

The important thing is what you eat and your exercise.

To each his own, I guess. I rarely take pics of my food. I prefer to eat off of plastic. No fancy plates for me. I don't think the issue is taking food pics- I think the issue is when it becomes a weird competition. Some of the food posted is very hard to see with bad lighting or whatever and I get why you'd want it to look nice if you are going to post it- but definitely not something I can get into- personally. Though I did use a filter on my spaghetti once. LMAO. The colors didn't look right without it. hahaha.

What I like is color and texture, but I have neither the talent nor the patience for fancy plating. Also, I make lots of one-pot meals which really aren't that attractive. Plus, my dishes, which I love, look better with no food on them. LOL! I do however enjoy occasional fine dining. WFN, I would have loved to dine at your restaurant.

Guys, it was just a lump of leftover spaghetti on some spinach. Chill. I won’t do it again.

I like seeing the fancy plating. it makes me smile. I have gone back many times to look at Moopie's plates especially because it was an easy way to Boost my mood

Are you implying it wasn’t my epic plating skills being called out, Chris? Because almost all of it did get on the actual plate that time. That was such a good meal... second day spaghetti is the best. Reminiscing. Anyways, I gotta swim now so I can eat before midnight. Day got away from me.

I find that the better it looks the more I want to eat. Maybe I’m odd.

@katsolo spaghetti is literally the ONLY food that tastes better when reheated lol

The nice plating does not detract from from the delicious looking food. I am looking at the food not the arrangement. I get ideas of what to eat from these posts. Keep it up!

I'm new and I have enjoyed the plating and seeing all the different combinations of food. Several people have given me great ideas of what to eat just from their pics of healthy meals. I'm with Lirope. Keep it up!

I scroll through to look at how much weight people lost or gained, so I can encourage them. rare lady right look at the food plating. personally, I wouldn't go to the trouble. I think I did plating once and thought this is stupid. I don't have time for this. I eat very simply. Meat and vegetables. 💪❤

I'm a hobby photographer so my pictures reflect that. I'm not super interested in any type of competition but I do appreciate food pics that are appetizing.

This is a great point and some may benefit from this advice, however many feel accomplished and proud when a wonderful/healthy/beautiful plate is created, and love to share not just for competition.......but to remember the proud moment, and to give ideas and inspiration to others. We must find what works for us, we are all a little different.

Not sure if this is right?.....but, kinda wants me to get a little competitive and try and post a picture of an awesome plate of food! ...Something I don't normally do, lol😄

Pretty plates are awesome not saying they don't inspire. Everyone's journals are their own. . No idea what most of them even are as most have no comments added. Just doesn't seem to be much chat about exercise or WOE plans. Mostly food photos. I know i have added a few lately and had not before, nothing glamourous though and comments about what was there.

Oh I absolutely share what's in the picture and I don't use filters. I completely understand the point that you're making and I don't disagree, I hope it didn't sound as if I did.

I love seeing the fun and cool things, and ways, everyone here prepares their food. Maybe its therapeutic, or motivating? maybe because of the pandemic people enjoy cooking at home more so value the time spent doing it. I think you're being a judgy here. everyone is on their own journey and sharing in their unique way. I think its awesome, and I support however anyone wants to share! even if it's on a paper plate like mine are most of the time. However people choose to live their best life, and share with this community, I'm all for it. Now, seriously, how do I change my stupid profile picture?!
