This is what our ‘class schedule’ looks like. One kid is on the left and the other is on the right. Not listed is the kindergartener because we can do hers at any time. Typically 8-9:30 because she bugs me from 7:30 on to get around so she can start lol. We have 1-3 hours a day of class meetings (google and zoom) for my oldest and 1.5-2.5 for my middle with an hour a day optional and online for science.

Is this about what it is for you all with elementary and middle schoolers? Our cousin is complaining it’s too much work for her son with autism (he excels in school supposedly and he acts like any other kid other than a few things like the occasional meltdown, speech is a bit different and he talks slower). My SIL says it seems like a lot to her and she used to teach. This seems like very little to me considering they were in classes for 6.5 hours before including recess, lunch and athletics/PE. I expected 4 hours a day in classes or more. Just wanted to see how we stand compared to everyone else’s school schedule.

PS the differing morning class times and finding a lunch time had some days! My oldest has classes from 11:00-12:30 2 days a week and is out at 12 another day. Hubby likes lunch at 11 lol. So far we’ve managed a quickie lunch together every day this week.

Awesome job, peeperjj! Love your schedule. Does my old teacher heart proud. Additionally, an intense 2-3 hours is just as good as a full day.

I ❤️ graphs, tables, spreadsheets etc! The school sent out another thing asking people to please come pick up lunches. I had to make a schedule to see what days we are able to do so and when I can do my shopping. My FB friends were having a hard time understanding the top one so I made the bottom one hoping just color blocks would be easier for them :). Now I know I can do the lunches on T, Th and maybe F and do my shopping afterward if needed. I wouldn’t have to shop other than we keep running out of things like bread and having to look for things like potatoes. I’ve never seen stores go this long with very little potatoes! They have the ones you buy individually and the big bags of tiny ones but no bags of normal sized potatoes. Had to buy deodorant on Amazon because Walmart has been out for over 3 weeks.

Good going!!! Oh do I know charts and graphs for home school. Having taught all five of mine except the last one at home through 12th grade, I do know what you are enjoy/enduring. Gosh, I'm glad I'm not doing it now! Good luck!!!

I'm an elementary school teacher and the guideline I have been given is to assign 2-3 hours of work with options for those who want to do more. Of course, there needs to be flexibility since all students have their own ways of learning, attention spans, home lives, etc. so what is 2-3 hours for one could be half as much or double for someone else. I think what's important is having some structure and promoting the idea that learning is both fun and necessary. I would say you're knocking it out of the park. Lucky kids.

Danana the credit goes to their teachers! They set the schedules I just make sure the kids follow it. I just ask that my kids complete extra work between their zoom/google meet classes so that they have most of the afternoon to goof off. My oldest likes to run so if she gets all her work done early I let her go for a 1-2 mile run. My middle likes to work ahead so there isn’t an issue with her at all other than she will likely be bored come Friday. My youngest is 5 and at 7:30 every morning she comes in and begs me to get out of bed so she can do her lessons. The PC is in my bedroom (the best place to get the WiFi) and she wants to do her work alone. She has 2 books read to her, answers some questions, journals, has a fun activity that I help with, 10 minutes of speech and then she’s supposed to read a book independently (she’s been reading since last summer). My only wish is that every teacher would leave a full hour from 11-12 or 12-1 for a family lunch and outside time like regular school. But we have 12 teachers between my 3 kids for the basic subjects and speech.

Wholefoodnut I’m big on structure and routine during the school year. Not so much during summer. Summer is a free for all lol. My oldest assumed it would be like summer so had to adjust to the schedule. I could probably homeschool if I had teaching books like teachers had when I was a kid. I wouldn’t enjoy it though. I prefer helping with homework with my kids and volunteering with kindergarteners at the school once a week. My oldest doesn’t take direction from me and is very argumentative. My middle learns like I do but she’s gifted so that would be hard to keep her where she’s challenged. My little would be easy peasy lol.
