Happy Hump Day to All! Now, mark this one on your calendar, because I am about to say something nice about Wal-Mart:

Usually I avoid anything that says "light" on the label, but I found an exception - Wal-Mart's Marketside Light Buttermilk Ranch Dressing (sold in Produce Aisle). This product (for me) is a good compromise between low carb and low calorie. And it tastes decent too.
2 tablespoons has:
2 carbs
50 cals

And yes, I know it would be healthier to make my own, but since that is not going to happen on a regular basis, this will have to do.

Meanwhile, I need to brag. Had perfect food day yesterday (30 net carbs/1350 cals). My goal for today is to duplicate that with a little extra exercise.

Lizzy - I cannot take credit. I had been using Marie's Yogurt Dressings (at 2 carb/70 cals) but that is expensive and not sold at Wal-Mart. If my Sister hadn't of told me about it I never would have tried it. Now I can save 20 calories and a few pennies too!

I'm still looking for something....anything....nice to say about WalMart. The closest I've gotten is that it's a necessary evil. Thanks for the info on the dressing. I will definitely be trying it out.

Thanks for the tip, Buffy. I need to try that. I love my Wishbone ranch, but it's so calorie-heavy, it's a real problem when I'm trying to stay in that 1200-1300 calorie range AND keep the carbs low - the same dilemma you're having. So far, any alternative just hasn't tasted that great, but I'll sure give this one a try. Thanks! And....great job on keeping your numbers under control yesterday!!!

Sandy - I love buttermilk and this has a very "buttermilky" taste. But if you don't like buttermilk, you might not like this. Have you tried the Marie's yogurt dressings? They are 2 carb/70 cals. The Feta is good (if you like feta cheese).

Ruth - Your encouragement helps a lot!

Thanks for the heads up on that. I prefer Ken's Steakhouse Buttermilk Ranch Dressing, at 1 gram of carbs per 2 tbs, but having just looked at the label, and seeing it weighs in at 180 calories; as long as it tastes good, the Walmart dressing is certainly a better buy. Being the Walmart brand; it's probably less expensive too. :-) Not having a Walmart near me, I'll just have to add my own feta, to my salads; it's also great in scrambled eggs, and as a topper for home made pizza. :-)

buffy, that is funny! I was wondering what lead you to try, I swore off Wal-Mart food about 6 month ago after trying their watered down milk and tasteless yogurt and bad looking meat! I LOVE Maries blue cheese! my journal tomorrow will be on my GOOD shopping experience today, have a good night!

ps, if you like hellmans mayo, their light is pretty good. the low fat is yucky but you wouldn't use that. might save you some calories if you needed a mayo substitute. only 1 or 1.5 carbs...:-)

ShyGuy - I LOVE Ken's Steakhouse, but found the extra calories stall my weight loss - it's a woman's thing I guess! A lot of my salad shortcuts come from finding things I can bring to work to work and throw together in 2 minutes without a kitchen.

Lizzy - Don't get me going on Wal-Mart. We might find ourselves thrown off here for slander.

I ran into the problem with something "light" yesterday. Forgot to check the pouch for the nutrition and when I put it into the food diary, phewwwwww!//// I found that I do not need the whole serving of dressing on my salad. Just use the half of it and shake my salad well ;-) That is - I carry it in a bowl to work, therefore it is easy to shake *lol* Saves carbs, calories, and money, all at the same time. And still tastes good.
