DairyKing's Journal, 25 Jan 13

Slept in till five this morning. Barely had time to feed the cats, dogs, and milk the rabbits. Had a cup of corn chex with 2% milk and some Sunny Delight for breakfast. Weigh-in was good at 240.5; but I know I always take off quite a bit of weight in the first couple weeks once I start back up again. Mind you, I'm not complaining; just being realistic.

That gets me to thinking how impatient most of us really are. We think we ought to be losing an average of at least 2 to 3 pounds per week - or want to - but I think most of us don't think about the fact that if we only lost one pound a week, that's 52 pounds a year! Who wouldn't be happy to lose 52 pounds in a year. We are just, by and large, an impatient generation that doesn't want to wait for anything. It's the same I want it now mentality that got us where we are in the first place. Be honest, if you were quite a bit overweight when you started, you probably lost quite a bit of weight in the first couple weeks. And you expected that rate of loss to continue, and then when it didn't - especially if you had a week or two with no loss - you got extremely frustrated - and maybe even quit. But, step back and look at the big picture. If you faithfully followed your eating plan, and you averaged it out over time, could you say that you lost a pound a week over the long haul? Most of us could. The main thing is to be consistent, and not be deterred by lapses in weight loss. If you are persistently and consistently following a moderate eating plan - and I don't care what diet you are following - you will lose the weight. That being said, exercise does build muscle, and muscle is more efficient at burning calories. Now I'll step down off my soapbox.

A regular heat wave this morning - 24F riding into work this morning. Calling for snow flurries - that just means a teaser. DW and DD are making a day of it today, going to the cancer doctor and then out shopping and eating. I'm on my own tonight, so I'll have to get inventive. I know there is chile left in the fridge. I hope there's not too much in there, because I have a tendency to rationalize how eating too much of the things I like won't really hurt anything - and then feel guilty because I know that second bowl was just because it tasted so good - and not because I was still hungry. Hey, that's why we're here; we need support. Pray for me!

Well, got to go, and actually get some work done. Hope all my FS Warrior friends have a wonderful day. Toodles!

I hate when my mouth wants more but my stomach is done. I told my best friend about this problem and followed by saying "So how can I be the best cook I know and be skinny?" She simply said "Don't eat anything you cook." :)Best advice I ever had!

Thanks for the reminder about losing only one pound a week. After this morning's weigh in I needed that. BTW - about milking those rabbits - or should I ask?

Good lesson taught today DK! You made me want to count my weeks - and it has been 33 weeks since I started this WOE and I have lost 57.5 lbs. I'm really happy about that. Thanks!!! Lately I have my "after dinner" sweet planned - ok - it is always dark choc. But when I finish my weighed and logged dinner I don't think about a 2nd helping but move right to my weighed and logged sweet. Helps me stop after one serving.

Excellent job, Susan! It works; doesn't it? So Buffy, what do you want to know?

Two comments, DK. FIRST - I'm going to check for flies on the wall of my bathroom because I said the SAME thing, just not that logically. I noted a 1lb loss today from last week and said 'well, hell, if that holds true for another 3 days I'll record it' and then I did some math that went 'great... the scalebot lied that I'll reach goal in 3 months because it looks like it's going to take 12...' and THEN I made myself look in the mirror and gave myself a talking to ala 'Bella, you're eating everything you want, more than you want sometimes, and if you maintain this and are 52lbs lighter by next January it's better than being 120lbs of where you were LAST January ... so shut up, brush your teeth and ..' well, I'll leave it at that. By then I'm sure, much like my husband, you stopped listening anyway. Good for YOU!

Duh, second thought - I keep thinking this morning about your response to my bird feeder question (and everyone ELSES that followed) as 'give it a week and you'll have to constantly buy more seed.' I actually heard the birds singing and saw them perched atop the brick building next door discussing the new 'restaurant' in town so I guess they are checking me out. SOOOO... what happens if I run out of feed / seed a few days? Are we talking humane guilt or a Hitchcock remake??

Well, FB, I go back to Sk1nny's comments a while back. Once you commit, you're in it for the long haul, or you are a low-life scumbag. I think it was Sk1nny that said if they get used to feeding there and come there and it's empty, they will fly until they find another feeder, and they may starve to death in their quest.

Absolutely right DK.... FB .. You don't want our little feathered friends starving because you've run out of food.... So get stocked up...they'll be trying out the new restaurant VERY soon by the sounds of it..... I have just filled mine up for the second time. They have slowed slightly (was 3 times a couple of days ago) because the snow has cleared slightly. You wait untimely Spring... When they have youngsters to feed.... Wow... Talk about a quick turn around... Then it slows, as fresh insects fruit and berries are available. You are their 'emergency rashions' famine conditions are here.
