diehard3's Journal, 28 Mar 19

Yesterday I ordered a Big Mac with no bun and much to my surprise I got the order in a nice little container with lots of lettuce and no bun. It was a good meal. I will do that again. Today is a beautiful day and I am off to a good start. I had 2 eggs and a sausage for breakfast. I haven't made a plan for lunch yet, but I am going to lay off the lettuce for today because it is causing my blood to be too thick. For Dinner I am having chicken strips with cottage cheese and green beans. I will resume my salads tomorrow.

Can you explain how lettuc might make your blood too thick?

I don't mean to intercept Diehard's chance to answer you Kenna but I remember when my mom's late husband had to limit his salad intake because it threw his meds off and he was taking a blood thinner.

Yes, I am on blood thinners. lettuce and green leafy vegetables have a lot of vitamin K which helps your blood to clot. Alcohol, aspirin, and pain relievers that are nsaids will cause your blood to be too thin. It is all a balancing thing. I test my blood weekly. I am subject to blood clots so the Doctor keeps my blood thin, but not too thin.

I am temporarily off diet and had a gorgeous burger on Sunday. For 13 years I have passed the same big burger place and wondered what they were like and never stopped. On Sunday I stopped and it was great...okay diet destroyed but the taste was great. I remember when I was on warfarin and had to balance everything so carefully and never could get it right. I had to go for blood test every single week for six years until they put me on Pradaxa and no more blood tests and no more worry about Vitamin K. I got really really lucky.

Diehard— traditional ice burg lettuce has less than 20 mcg of k in a cup. Way down on the food list, but I assume you know how much you can get by with and have a comprehensive list of foods of all kinds (think licorice) that have really significant amounts. I wasn’t aware you were on blood thinner. I also was thinking that docs were straying away from the Coumadin and warfarin drugs that require such strict food and INR. monitoring.

There is a reason why Dr hasn't changed me over to one of these other blood thinners, I think that side effects have something to do with it.

Excellent burger order! I love how the burger joints are so accommodating now.

After losing over 100 pounds 15 years ago and keeping it off, it slowly started to creep back which really terrified me. I am now doing the keto diet with one or two days of fasting. I really enjoy eating this way. I did a lot of calculations to find the percentage of Fat,Protein, and carbs I need to eat each day and this has made it simple to choose my foods. But I mostly enjoy the weight that is falling off me!!
