Trying to figure out portions for dinner. A whole 9x13 dish of no peek pork chops and rice is 1475 kcal! 95g protein too. Hmmm.... why didn’t I realize this before? I can have a whole casserole every day and stay under maintenance!! Even get super close on protein! However half the dish is normally a lunch and dinner for me so I’d have to eat 4 meals a day and give up my snacks to make it work. Maybe I should just eat half per day and have a shake and protein bar :). <——1100 kcal and 94g protein. I think I’ve been going about this all wrong!! Lol

Yup, getting the protein without over doing the fat can be tricky. I take a break from the protein bars and powder every once in awhile, but they sure make it easy.😊

Yes! 160 for 30g protein is hard to beat. Especially when it tastes so good and I can have it as my bedtime snack or anytime I need a snack. Now my fit crunch bars... I’m 99% sure I’m addicted to those. Almost every evening and workout mornings I have to tak myself out of having one. It’s like having a 190 calorie cookie with 16g of protein! Lol. But some days I just don’t have the 190 in my budget or don’t need the extra protein. And it’s only about 25 cents higher than a candy bar ;).

Fit Crunch bars, I'll check those out. Tomorrow I am splurging on Nathan's hot dogs and frozen custard, so the rest of my food will be protein bar and top sirloin. Finding out that a family member owns the frozen custard business makes it easy to indulge. 😉 Trying not to get in trouble! Actually, it's an anniversary celebration for the business, that's why we're going and they are 2 hours away, so there is that protection. 😉

Oh, forgot to mention that I have been buying 96% ground beef at Wal-Mart. It's tasty and helps me meet those protein numbers.

Lol good thing they aren’t 10 minutes away! The bars run $6-$7 here for 6 of them. They are fairly small. They have 380 kcal big ones with 32g protein I think. But my shakes are 160 kcal and it’s nice to drink one when I’d rather not eat. We butcher our own beef. No clue as to actual fat content but every so often I’ll weigh before and after cooking to see how much fat and water cooked out. Usually it’s 15-25%. We have elk, venison and antelope in the freezer I should be eating. Very lean but very gamey tasting and dry. When we eat it I get my water in easily! Bars and shakes just taste so much better but I do love beef.

Chris, the whole dish is only around 35g of fat!! I’m trying to learn my balance of fats and carbs. I know if either are really high (250g C or 100g F) then it doesn’t matter my deficit I won’t see a change on the scale. At one point I should’ve been losing a pound a week but wasn’t. Each time either fats or carbs were really high. :/. Of course it COULD have been the processed carbs like my protein bars and snickers but I doubt it 😉. If that’s it then I’ll be happy because I can’t give them up! (Can but won’t)

We get venison, elk (our next door neighbor) and local beef (up the road) too, but not all the time. Bummer your meat is dry. I love our local venison and elk. We do have 2 turkeys in the freezer, I like our turkey too. Made tamales with the turkey last year. Sometimes game has to be doctored up, which may make it taste better, but adds the stuff we are trying to avoid. 😩

Yeah :/. Hubby takes people on big hunts as part of his job. Some places will add pork fat and seasonings but it costs a lot I guess. Most of the time he just brings it home and we butcher it ourselves. Anything ground he has them do but again they don’t add anything to it. Anything raised on sagebrush has a horrible flavor! Antelope isn’t that bad but it’s tough. From New Mexico I think. Takes a few hours in the crockpot before I can chew it lol. Now the jerky! Sometimes we slice it up and make jerky. I love the jerky!

New Mexico is where we live, just below the Gila Nat'l Forest. 😊

It is a puzzle. Find myself adjusting all the time. Partly because variation helps, and ideas for new experiments come around. At least it is not dreadfully boring this way 😃 Especially when good results come along with it. 👍

Diddlee, I get in a rut and either give up or change something. I just can’t believe this meal is low calorie. Not actually low calorie but I could have the whole thing plus some veggies and still stay at maintenance! The rice is super filling and I love the flavors. I ate one helping of rice and two small pork chops with steamed broccoli for 536 calories. This same type of meal out would’ve been 1000 or more. It’s easy to make and I usually have the ingredients on hand.

Becca, hubby was on the edge of a national forest on one of his trips. Maybe it’s the same one. He’s been to Colorado too. I forget where he got each animal because he’s always flying to a meeting. Hunts October- December. His company pays him to hunt lol. They reward some customers with trips or gifts. The hunting means time to spend talking about new products when they aren’t needing to be quiet. I believe he’s been to 40-45 states now. Hunted in 4-5. Maybe more. We have a deal. He can hunt as long as he doesn’t take a take animal AND he HAS to eat the meat or give to someone who will. I’m not a fan of waste of ANY kind. Probably part of the reason for my weight gain. Growing up poor I learned that you don’t waste food! If you take it you eat it. Now hubby and my oldest eat so much that if we want seconds we are out of luck. Take tonight as an example. I made two dishes. This should feed 6-8!people each so 12-16 total with sides. Made two cans of veggies for them, broccoli for me and rolls for all. He won’t eat broccoli. He ate half of one dish. That’s 3-4 servings. He left enough for my oldest to have for a snack after her dance. One won’t feed the 5 of us and the youngest two together eat less than me! My oldest eats about the same and hubby eats the same as all is girls together. I have 4 portions left and if he gets it he will eat it all for lunch or make it two snacks (4 meals for me or one for all of us girls with some left over). Now it’s become like his family. His mom had three teens and a 300# 6’4 hubby and made 6 burgers from 1# of meat. The guys fought for the last one! One bag of chips between them all as a side. It’s still that way actually. They have money but dislike waste too therefore cook for half the people attending. You load up the first time because there won’t be any left in 10 minutes. It’s a hard habit to break! Thankfully it’s easier for me as we were poor but we always had enough food. I could have thirds if I wanted. It may mean more hotdogs than hamburgers for future meals tho lol.
