DairyKing's Journal, 16 Aug 12

Didn't get to bed last night until around 10:30. DW called me at work and suggested we go for pizza at Monicals afterwards. Nothing tastes good to her these days except Chinese and junk food. You can probably picture why I'm struggling to keep on any kind of plan. So, I enjoyed the motorcycle ride over to meet her at the restaurant. Anyway, we typically get the Family Pleaser - a large thin crust pizza, big bowl of lettuce salad with carrots and tomatoes, and a pitcher of diet coke. This time, I convinced her to get a Family Pleaser, but with a small vegetable pizza instead of the usual and massive large one. She agreed. She prefers the vegetarian variety anyway. Pizza is my weakness no matter what it's got on it. Since it's one of those thin crust pizzas cut into small 2 or 3 in. squares, it's hard to determine how much I really ate, so I just selected 8 slices from the offerings on the FS Diet Calendar. Either way, I blew it, but by selecting '8', I came in under my RDI. :) Who knows? I think I'm all right.

Afterwards, after taking care of the critters, I finished turning and assembling the pen I was making for her Cancer Surgeon - the one that actually removed the lumps, and ordered the therapies. I'm attaching pictures below (not of the lumps, just the pen).

Slept in until 4:00 this morning. Barely had time to finish my 3.0 mile run (since I jogged at a snail's pace to keep my HR under 70%). Next week I'll start mixing my runs up, switching between a 70% and an 85% effort. it will take a little while to truly see the results in terms of speed, but I can already feel a difference - less body aches on the drive to work. Part of that may be due to the whey/protein supplement I'm taking immediately after my workouts. Anyway, at least I'm still doing something, and that's what it's really about.

Enough about the life and times of DK. Hope everyone has a wonamous Thursday. Keep those commments coming. Luv you all!

Notice the little accent I put down near the tip of the pen. Saw it in a catalog somewhere, and thought I'd try it.

Man - you are one talented person! I love those pens - they are so unique and detailed! And, the discipline to get up at 4:00am and run...argh!

What an awesome gift! Do you sell these? I would like to buy one. You should make an "etsy" account. Is it glass-blown? I've always wanted to learn that skill. Pizza is my weakness too, but kudos on the vegetable version!

No, Lindsay, they are not glass blown, but it is interesting how that feature near the tip could lead you to believe so. These are turned down from a rectangular block of acrylics that have been doped with various features. And no, I don't sell them; this way, nobody can complain that they got ripped off. I just give them as gifts. What's your favorite color?

BTW, Lindsay, I looked on Etsy, out of curiosity. and found over 150 pages of nicely done pens, selling for between $12.00 and over $1,000.00. I think the guy selling the pens for over $1,000.00 is a little greedy though; I know what the kits sell for. :) I just like to add a little of my own personal flair to the ones I make, but they're not all that valuable. I'm glad you like them though. Thanks!

Ooops.... Very difficult when DW wants pizza and it is your favourite. I guess you want to 'look after her' after all she has been through.... There will come a time when you need to say NO though :-). Love the pen so pretty and delicate.... And such a lovely gift. Your runs and whey/protein supplement seem to be paying off :-)

Thanks, Pam. I tell her occasionally that we need to quit eating out so often, but when she doesn't feel like cooking, and I'm going to get home so late that I don't feel like cooking, it just kind of sucks. She says she shows a weight loss every time she goes to the doctor, so I guess she isn't eating much unless we do go out. If it keeps up, I'll just have to prepare meals for myself and freeze them, then try to eat light when we do go out, and use the pre-prepared meals when we don't, and she doesn't want to eat. Even I can throw some hamburger or chicken, veggies and rice together pretty quick and freeze it.

Nice that you took the time to meet here for pizza - it is probably good for her to keep eating even if the food is not the best. BTW - Your pen is beautiful - a very thoughtful gift.
