I also have maintained the weight I prefer most of my life, due to diligence, experience, avoiding shopping for food when hungry, trying all kinds of diets (food choices, not diets) including vegan for 9 years, etc.
I was at my heaviest of 185Lb when 21 years old, from drinking beer for several years. Trimmed down to 175 in boot camp, then over the years settled down to 145 as my natural weight, with very little body fat, and just being active most of the time. No desk jobs. In 1984 I started weight training at various health clubs and reached 165Lb within 2 years with 10% body fat, playing racquetball 3 times or more a week, weight training all muscle groups 2 times a week (I'm now 5'10" and medium small frame, don't have or want the genes for huge muscles.) I prefer to keep my weight and diet like this since I really like the agility, mobility and strength, and not having to carry around an extra 100 Lb of fuel. :)

I blame and am disgusted with corporations that have taken over the role of 'food provider' instead of wife or mother. The choices are stupendous, and have way too much fat, salt, protein and sugar, and very little essential things like: healthy fats, micro nutrients, minerals, fiber. all which used to be abundant in most basic vegetables and foods. Plus the dairy industry pushing dairy as an essential food group!!!! Mainly in America (they have infiltrated other countries now) do humans eat or drink the milk of other species. Before this happened (since 1980 or so) there were very few fat people. In my grade school of 400 children there was only ONE fat kid. Look up video's of people before 1980, most people skinny or skinny and out of shape.
Now we have the extremes: a few skinny, lots more in shape, many pumped up like the incredible hulk, lots more fat and in shape, too many just fat due to no fault of there own. !
