Putcake's Journal, 19 Jun 12

I've been feeling the stress the last two week from some family issues.

On the positive, my son will be one on Friday! I can't believe it's been a year since I had him. Being his mom is the best job I've ever had - he's a great baby and it's been so much fun watching him grow.

The negative comes from the stress of his first birthday party! I've always found my own birthday overwhelming, and there's a joke in my family that I always cry on my birthday. So now I might just have to cry on his birthday too! My mom decided to go with her church on a trip to Europe - so she's missing his birthday. I think the worst part for me is that she treated it like it wasn't a big deal. Maybe it's not to her, but it is to me! She was there when he was born and I was so excited to celebrate his first year. I'm trying to remind myself that she will be the one missing out - but it's just been really tough for me.

And I didn't intend to, but we invited 50 people (yikes) and I think we're going to have about 30 attend! It's tough because he has some little friends that we wanted to invite, and then some friends who have been very supportive, and a few relatives, and there you go! My dad had leftover meat from a memorial day party, so we're covered there - we just have to get everything else.

I've also been working in my yard - we had mulch delivered a few weeks ago, so I've been spending a lot of hours outside getting it put down. I'm really on a time crunch now because I'd like to have everything done by Sunday for the party - and the oncoming heat wave might cut my time short! I think I should have some time tonight before hubby's meeting to get everything finished up - or close!

Then it's just getting the house cleaned up and having the party. I haven't had this many people at my house (or 5 toddlers running around) so it should be interesting. I'm sure everything will be fine - I'm continuing to focus on making good food choices and I'm hoping next week to get back into my treadmill/eliptical routine. I know yard work burns calories - but not quite the burn that I've been getting with my other exercise!
