My plan for today is to keep carbs below 20. Tonight I'm going to a New Year's party. I'm bringing a veggie tray. The hostess is making turkey chili. I plan to taste the chili and nibble on the veggies. I will have coffee with half and half for breakfast. For lunch I'll have eggs and cheese.

One meal at a time, you'll get there

Cheese is my biggest calorie buster. Sounds like you are doing low carb. If so, do watch the cheese. Even though low carb, has a LOT of calories.

I really need to burn up the glucose and get into ketosis so I don't crave carbs. Last night I ate frosted miniwheats and milk which I bought for my adult daughter. I was eating my feelings of being overwhelmed and angry at not being able to find a good solution to how to help her. And angry at myself for eating sugar at lunch. I know better. Still I gave in.

I’d also suggest taking a couple of hard boiled eggs with you to the party. Easy way to get protein and fat so you’re not so hungry there.

Sounds like a good idea amymcg73. Thank you.

Ruthe get the urine strips in drugstores to see if your using ketones, cutting your carbs as you said is very important. Any diet low in carbs will get you into ketosis. Once you get to ketosis you will reach "fat adapted" thats the goal. Once your fat adapted your burning your stored fat for fuel. The turkey chili isnt going to kill you, the sauce has a lot of carbs. I'd eat before I go. Good luck!

It's not even 11:00. I'm still not dressed. I've only had coffee with half and half this morning. I'm afraid to start eating.

Take a shower and get dressed in good clothes, style your hair and put on make up. Go look in the bathroom mirror and smile at yourself. If that doesn’t work stick your tongue out at yourself. If you can’t enjoy a good bowl of sweetened cereal then what is the point!? Sometimes I make a treat and then flush it down the toilet. I find that extremely liberating. When I am in a bad place, I have let myself overeat, but with fat and protein and salt. No sweets, no starches. Olives, pickles, sausages, jerky, bacon, eggs, cheeses, veggies with high fat dip.

What would you need help with... planning meals, meal timing, aerobic versus strength training?

So fill the vacuum?

Pretty much, whether it's to eat something better or do an activity. 1. Take the time to stop and understand the emotions. 2. Eating certain foods make us feel good, find other ways to feel good. 3. If you like to say eat ice cream, get rid of the ice cream. You can treat yourself to ice cream when you are out, and truly take the time to enjoy it. 4. Eat when hungry, that can take some time to get there. 5. Do some type of exercise in place of eating. This could be anything, preferably something you like. Go for a walk, do some online yoga videos. Learn a new skill (this I love and is fun) 6 Practice mindfulness, this can be done anywhere while doing anything. Just some thoughts that might be helpful

Thoughts are so important. Directing thoughts-remembering what is true. Focusing on what is true and good.
